My quit date

16 years ago 0 447 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I was not feeling all those things this morning because of the quit. It is because I am mourning the loss of a very loved young man. I have smoked today and made the decision that my original quit date of Feb 9th was probably a better idea than this. I am still planning that and have changed my quit date to next Saturday so I can get thru this week with the funeral service and all and let go of my strong feelings of grief. I didn't go with my gut on this first quit date, but instead let all of you convince me that I should go ahead and do it now. I know better than to ignore that gut. That's God talking to me. Next Saturday it is and I really hope that everyone will still be here for me day to day until then and after. Terry

Terry, Sorry to hear you're having a rough day but hang in there! The first few days are the toughest. It's expected that your mood will take a nosedive in the first few days but you'll see, have a little patience, employ your coping strategies and this will pass. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

Hi Terry The people here are right, theres never a good day to quit according to the little voice in your head, but if you are serious you just have to tell that little voice who's boss and get on with it. Once you have done that the voice will gradually lose its power. I set several dates and kept putting it off until I found this site and did all the preparation suggested. I'm still only a beginner compared with most on here but already my little inner voice is appearing less often. Its difficult, yes, but its also an extremely rewarding challenge. Good luck, fingers crossed for you. Sorry to hear you're having a rough morning. People here will talk about the junkie and junkie thoughts. You are having them now. "I don't know if today is a good day to do this."- Junkie. Well, of course it's not. No day is a good day to go thru withdrawal. But, of course it is also no worse than any other day either and you might as well get it over with. It's only going to be as bad as you allow it to be. It really is a lot about how you let it play out in your mind. I have some questions for you to ask yourself. Did you prepare for this quit and do you have coping strategies in place? Why do you want to quit? How long have you wanted to quit? If you don't quit today, when will you? When is going to be a better time? Would you rather quit now of your own volition or would you rather wait and quit when the doctors tell you you have some life threatening disease and have to quit so you don't die? What's the worst thing that is going to happen to you if you don't smoke today? Also, print out this thread and carry it with you. There is page after page of encouragement and advice here and if you make yourself read it before you walk into the store to buy a pack, by the time you have finished the craving will be gone...or at least lessened. Of course, it is a pretty long thread so you might get ticketed for loitering. Just tell the cop you are quitting smoking and he/she'll probably let you off with just a warning. I'm sure they won't want to piss you off today. ;p Either way, if you decided to continue to quit today or if you smoke today, it's your decision and you have to own it. You really are in control. :) You can do it!! Terry: Well, at the risk of sounding like a smart guy, I will tell you that you are correct..."This is not the day to TRY this"...This is the day to DO this...I know it feels daunting and the mountain appears to be steep, but if you push yourself over the first few hills, the view from the top will be magnificent. The first day might be difficult, but one thing for sure is that if you participate fully in this day, there will be no more first days to conquer. Remember, we have been waltzing with this addiction for a long time and it is going to take a bit of effort to get that 3 step out of your head. Make no mistake, a great deal of the desire resides in our emotional and mental being. In some ways that bit of it can be more difficult than the actual physical addiction. I will promise you this, however, that if you take that blind leap of faith and begin to embrace the thought that this is good for you and that with each passing day you will be a better, stronger Terry, you will suffer the travails of being an addict with a wonderful grace that will propel you up that mountain with the greatest of ease. Ok now angry, sad ranting mad, it dosen't matter, soon you will meet yourself in all of those states and with each encounter you will learn that YOU CAN HANDLE THIS...I promise... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 404 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,120 Amount Saved: $4,242.00 Life Gained: Days: 75 Hrs: 8 Mins: 9 Seconds: 1

I woke up angry and sad this morning and all i want to do is cry and smoke. I haven't gotten out of the house yet so I have none, but that's coming in about an hour.I don't know if today is such a good day to try this or not.

Good Morning Terry! I've been thinking about you. You are going to do just fine! Hang in there and kick some ash! Can't wait to hear about your DYI project and how it's going. I hope it involves hammering or better yet, knocking out walls. ;p just hang in there and pat yourself on the back for every hour you get through. Tonight, you should plan some special reward!
