My quit date

Thanks Patrick. I have been delaying and delaying for over a month now. I was at 2 or 3 a day and hope to be back there from the 7 I'm having now by the time the 9th comes. Thanks for your support. Terry

Terry, Good luck on the 9th Feb. you've given yourself a good long time to prepare for the Quit. Practice dismissing random thoughts from your mind; if you idly find yourself musing about the car or work, then just practice dumping those thoughts by deliberately thinking of something else. When you wake up on that Saturday, drink a long glass of ice cold water to start the day and do exactly the opposite that you have done habitually. Or, do the necessary but delay the action somewhat. You can start now by delaying the next cigarette for ten minutes and deliberately stretching the delay of the following smokes all the way up tothe 9th Feb... Watch for the triggers, like coffee, tea or end-of-meal-smoke. You have to eat but try standing for the next meal you make for yourself... make it a fork-friendly scrambled eggs or a spoon-friendly porridge... go buy that antiseptic hand-wash soap from the pharmacy that smells like the hospital... it helps to remind me of what I'm risking if I give in to the cravings... You're in your early 50s now and that's when I started to notice that my chest was wheezing and gurgling at night after 25-30 cigarettes (after damn near 35 years smoking)... it lies in wait for you too and let that be a major part of your resolve to Quit on the 9th Feb my thoughts are with you Patrick My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/17/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 175 Amount Saved: $78.75 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 9 Mins: 59 Seconds: 16

Ok, so I can't figure out how this works..but I tried a new conversation, that didn't work...so here I will paste what I wrote. I just want all of you to know that I have been reading all of the old and new posts for the last 40 some odd days at work to get me through. Sometimes I cry (more times than not) and sometimes I laugh really hard, I am sure my co-workes think I am going crazy, I do. One day I am fine, the next day is like one very LONG day. I tried to quit before and failed, this is the longest I have made it. My husband is trying, but he still is smoking, thats a little hard to deal with. I also have anxiety disorder, which I am sure you know the best cure for that is NICOTINE!! So, I take meds to help with that, but the best medicine has been all of you, and you didn't even know it!! I hope I can get to a point where I am not thinking about smoking 24/7...AAAAHHH, Thanks to all of you. I won't be able to post and thank you all very often, but know that I am always reading and printing and laughing and crying and feeling everything you all do. Have a good day..I always try to.

I'm doing pretty good, thanks. Last Saturday was tough as you could see if you were on the boards then. :) I was typing like mad! But other than a few twinges, I've been pretty solid. My next milestone is 2 weeks and I'm just aiming for that. Hiya Terry! So glad you are here and quitting! You will be too. Yes, Kelly is a wonder. (a wonderful quitter and a wonderful supporter here) I am sure you are thrilled to have her support and advice. I have three sisters and none of them ever smoked so they had no clue as to what I was facing. Good for you on setting a quit date. You know we will be here for you. Saturday sounds like a great day for quitting. Just make sure you have plans in place for the possible triggers on Monday. Like, the drive to work, break times and that biggie, after work. (at least that was a big one for me) :gasp: Stay strong! Hang in there. You can beat this!
