It's temporary, and right now - you should be rewarding yourself every few hours!! Islandgirl, I like your new picture. Now you can download your meter and that will keep you aware of how good you are doing. You are doing good. I noticed you are a caregiver (so am I) You are doing the very best thing by caring for yourself. I felt so bad that first week...thus the name Hell Week. If anyone had told me that I was going to go through a week without smoking, I would have just laughed at them. Here I am on my 10th day and believe me you WILL FEEL SO MUCH BETTER after that first week. Hang in there...you can and will do it.

Hang in there. You know what you won't die from quitting, but you could die if you continue smoking. Yes, get the water and drink it, that is important. For me I use to cut straws the length of a cigarette and would take drags off of it. It gets you use to breathing clean air into your lungs and gives your hands something to do. There is another person here who use stir sticks, the kind you get with your coffee and chewed on them. I used that method one time when we went on a trip. Scream if you want, usually better to do that when no one is around. :eg: If you can take a nice long bath and put good smelling stuff on and crawl into bed. Coming here tells all of us that you really do want to quit and you will. Islandgirl, Hang in there. Take a nap or employ a relaxation technique. This may help with the symptoms you are describing. Remember this is temporary. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

The first week is nasty. But don't kid yourself you are doing amazing. Just remember before you reach for that cig check in here first, that's what kept me alive last week. You are stronger than you know. Be proud of yourself. Do something niece for yourself after dinner to keep your mind occupied. That way you won't think about smoking instead on pampeing yourself. What you're feeling right now goes away. Week two is a lot easier, and just think you will be into week 2, 3, and 4 in no time. :)

Make sure you reward yourself Island Girl, it helps, even if it is something small.
