Yeah, it really takes me by surprise too when it happens! When you get further in your quit, it is not so alarming because you have been there a few times before and know you are not going to smoke. You are doing great in your quit, Gen. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Lizzie I do understand and agree but I was so surprised by the feeling. It was so strong. The disappointment I rememeber from when I first stopped. Finding myself casting around for what to do to stop feeling that way. Panicked me a bit really but it's true! I don't smoke any more. No negotiation. Just a wake up call really. Gen, Last week I had a friend round to stay for a few days, and I allow her to smoke in my house. She does not actually smoke that much - just 5 a day....but during that time I noticed a few triggers. Even after 4 years or so, it can still affect you sometimes. The great thing is that it does not bother me. It's a trigger, but I don't smoke any more. No negotiation - just kick that junkie away! Cigarettes Not Smoked

16 years ago 0 1056 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
YES BUT... Last night, after that experience I had the first pang of desire for a cigarette I've had in months. Suddenly, just sitting watching television, it came over me "I want a cigarette". I had to talk myself out of it of course but today it suddenly clicked. I had heard reference on here that inhaling others' smoke can cause this to happen and it certainly did with me. I think I'll try and keep out of her house from now on! I had to take lunch to an elderly lady (she's in her 80s) who recently lost her husband and the smell almost knocked me sideways - I know what you mean Gen - it's awful isn't it? She still smokes like a trouper as did her husband. It just makes me feel bad about inflicting that on my family and friends when I used to smoke in the house years ago. Increased senses are one of the many benefits of quitting :) You can smell many more things and fragrances are such a welcome scent. Of course all the bad smells are heightened as well, so pick a scent and smell it often. Vanilla is a favorite :) Josie, Health Educator
