What is allotment? My biggie was at work. I ahve an office job without scheduled breaks, so I was pretty used to going out for a smoke whenever I felt like it. I would go if I had a tricky problem to solve, if I wanted to rehearse in my head a conversation with a client or a boss, to celebrate a deal going well, or to post-mortem one that didn't. Smoking was also a big social part of my job, going out with my smoking co-workers, and even getting to know smoker who worked for other companies in the building. I can't say I found a magic bullet for getting through it. I always had a nozzly thing full of cold water, and coffee straws. I still took breaks but not smoke breaks. I cried, broke things, yelled at people and eventually just got over it. Hi Martha, The one I could never beat was working on my allotment. I couldn't cope with the craves so sadly I gave it up and never went back. I miss it but it was a price I am happy to pay. If one wants to make the quit work, sacrifices sometimes need to be made - make them!! Penitent d1322 :)

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Thanks Goofy, I think I've learned to be strong AND tolerant, precisely in that order! I'm sure things will settle with your wife - I've found that the quit has made me speak aloud many things that were always pent up and masked by a cigarette, so my advice to you is to talk talk talk and listen listen listen. I really believe communication cures 'quit rage', because when you get right down to it, we all just need to be heard! Good luck and happy new year! x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 364 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,372 Amount Saved: 2,002.00 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 7 Mins: 27 Seconds: 59

WOW!!! You must be the strongest person in the world. Hat's off to you, Todash. You make my p*****d off wife seem trivial. I guess I should count my lucky stars that she quit with me. Thanks for your story, and I hope your New Year in your new home will be much more pleasurable. Way to go Wonderwoman!!! I've lived with my in-laws for six years. They should do a Discovery Channel survival documentary on me. It was supposed to be temporary but we're still saving for a house. I've ground my teeth to nubs. I have permanent nail marks in my palms. I've broken pencils in angst, chucked boxes and books across the room when no one's looking. My poor mother picks up the phone in Florida to a barrage of frustrations every other Sunday. I haven't consciously wanted to smoke, but underneath, weeeeeeeellllllll...?? 'Nuff said. My DH still smokes...NEXT TO ME (that's another story, mind you). I keep the fan on full blast at all temperatures to blow it out of my face. He actually had the rocks to burst out laughing a few weeks ago at the irony of an ex-smoker being so repulsed by sitting in a cloud. I told him I felt like I was suffocating and if he had the guts to quit maybe he'd find out what I'm on about. Living in his childhood home and still feeling like a guest after all this time makes it impossible to say YOU WILL SMOKE OUTSIDE AND YOU'LL LIKE IT. I have, however, got him to move the ashtray to the other side of his chair. Whoop de doo. But... My reward for a year quit? We're buying that house. Oh yeah, and it's going to be a non-smoking venue (can't quite make it non-inlaws but I'll do my absolute best. Trust me. :eg: ) If I can stay quit (and married!) ANYONE can. x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 364 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,372 Amount Saved: 2,002.00 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 7 Mins: 22 Seconds: 49

The one that still gets me is the boredom trigger. Watch out for this one. I just never had time for a trigger seems I always had a cigar stuck in my face.First thing in the morning with my coffee,on my drive to work, loading my truck ,driving from customer to customer (about 700 km per day )unloading at the customer ,driving home after a hard day at work, after supper ,before I went to bed.Do you think I was hard core :quest: My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/20/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 286 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,148 Amount Saved: $2,860.00 Life Gained: Days: 65 Hrs: 7 Mins: 23 Seconds: 28

Funny, the eating thing never bothered me but distance driving was a definite trigger. The thing about that one is that you really can do little about it if you're stuck in a car without one. It was the 'reward after hard work' ones that got to me You know that feeling when you've been doing something and you are physically or mentally worn out and you just want to sit down and have a cigarette. Or even just to get to the end of the day was enough to make it seem the right thing to do to sit down and smoke about 5 in succession. Now I buy cashew nuts - unsalted - and have a handful of them. Good idea Martha. Yes Martha, You're right. We should be doing something to help our New Year quitters. My worst trigger, which still occasionally bothers me, is right after I eat. I always enjoyed that smoke very much. It definitely is the hardest one, as well as driving, to overcome. Let's give this another go. I know there is a ton of collective wisdom among the quitters here that can be of so much use to those who are getting started...
