Wow. Your responses have blown me away! It shows the dedication it takes to quit - what an amazing assembly of people we have here. I think I shared most of the triggers you all listed and it just reminded me how much of a bear the first month or so can be. Todash - girl, you are my new hero! Pheww, I never would have made it :) Happy happy new year! Cigarettes Not Smoked

I work at home, so I would have a cig in between seeing clients. At first I would head upstairs for a drink of cold water or a peek in here, now I don't even go upstairs many times. Cooking has always been a trigger. I used to take breaks in between steps of big meals, and always one before I ate. For a while I'd have an out loud conversation about it, e.g., "Yes I want a smoke, but I'm not going to have one" "Why?" "Because I'm a nonsmoker and nonsmokers don't smoke, that's why!" "Oh, I see." Said loudly enough and with enough emphasis, it would convince me...or make me start laughing. Now I just note them and go on. I was such a heavy smoker that it's hard to nail just one down, but I can think of two. After eating. For me - it was the signal that I was done eating, and now I never seem to quite be finished. LOL! Going to the bathroom. Nicotine stimulates ... that, and I was such a heavy smoker that I don't think my body had to regulate anything on it's own anymore. It took a few weeks to ballance things out if you know what I mean. lol My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 533 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 39,975 Amount Saved: $9,993.75 Life Gained: Days: 47 Hrs: 14 Mins: 9 Seconds: 1

My worst trigger has always been my "alone" time. Especially arriving home from work. I substituted it with a walk in the woods with my dog. Triggers, 1st thing in the AM-- walking, not drinking coffee, last thing at night-- bored, just go to bed driving anywhere-- plastic straws to smoke, gum after a meal-- something sweet stress-- breathe, walk, jog WOW my triggers go on & on. My advise to the newbies, READ, Allan Carr's book and anything else you can find on addiction. Stay close to this site & make up your mind that YOU CAN QUIT!!! PS craves usually only last a few minuets My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 128 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,560 Amount Saved: $384.00 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 15 Mins: 9 Seconds: 25

Closet smoker here so my biggest craves were after work. I so looked forward to getting home and smoking all evening long! If I had not found a way to get in a smoke at lunch it was even MORE important to put everything else aside and get home to my smoking sanctuary. I missed so many events and outings because I needed to smoke. When I quit in the begining, it was depressing to come home because I could not have that wonderful first cig after a long day. I believed it was such a wonderful reward! I loved it when the sun was down at 4:30 (dark driving home) so I could light up and no one could see me sneaking my cig on the drive home. Now it still amazes me that the thought does not even cross my mind (no craves). I think about it and am still just amazed that that the nicodemon is so powerless and weak! Time is the key. Get though those waves of "if I don't smoke a cig I wil die!" And it will change to an occasional thought "Wow, I can hardly believe that I have no desire to smoke I used to be a craving maniac about this time of day". I feels so good. An allotment is a small parcel of land that is used to cultivate vegetables and/or flowers. It is usually part of a few acres of open land; working out there was very healthy and it felt like I was in the middle of the country while actually being in the middle of the city. Penitent :)

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

16 years ago 0 649 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
That first morning coffee on the porch, a comfy chair, watching the birds by the feeders, and a smoke. Up until a few days ago, it was directly to the computer to read, and straws and cough drops. Lately though, have ventured back outside to watch the birds, deep breathes of the cold air, and feel the emotions that happen to be.
