I am also a Chatix user. Have been taking it for 4 weeks now. The first week that I went to the 2 blue pills a day (2mg a day), I didn't rest well. Really had a hard time from the side affects. So, I after speaking to my doctor, I decided to try 1 week on just 1 pill a day. The first day after only taking 1 pill was a little rough... but I also had lots of stress and lots of things not go right that day. But since then I am doing just fine. BUT, everyone reacts differently, just be prepared if you decide to cut back on the Chantix. I was prepared to go back to 2 pills if needed and the first few days I had my coping plan in place. ok..i re-read the literature that came with the chantix. The half life is 24 hrs...so that means that by tomorrow morning I'll still have .5 mg in my system. Which is fine, because according to their studies, the efficacy of twice daily .5 and 1 mg doses doesn't vary much...45% vs 51% over time (weeks 9-12). There was one study where the subjects decided how much they wanted to take each day...between .5 and 2 mg total per day. They didnt report the separate results, I think because it sounded like people took different doses on different days. But good results there too-40% abstinence rate weeks 9-12. Follow up studies (up to one year) showed an average 19% abstinence rate for those taking 1 mg a day and 21-23% for 2 mg a day. They didnt report any involvement of their subjects in support groups such as this, and it is my guess they probably didn't, because that would have muddied the studies. On continuing on chantix for an additional 12 weeks- at weeks 13-24 those who didnt continue with chantix had a 50% abstinence rate, while those still taking it had a 70% rate. At 28 weeks post treatment, in other words 40 weeks for those who stopped after 12 weeks, the rate was 39%, while those who took it for the additional 12 weeks, at one year the abstinence rate was 54% Facts and figures...just something to consider. I think I'll stick with it. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 49 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,987 Amount Saved: $333.2 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 20 Mins: 6 Seconds: 9

Thanks for all of your thoughtful input in terms of your experiences with chantix and nrts. Well, it looks like I will get to experience a half dose anyway...I forgot to renew my prescription until this morning, and the dr's office said the pharmacy probably will not have the renewal until tomorrow. So.....that means no evening dose. Kinda nervous, because the one main craving I have every day is around that time. But, I will NOT smoke. I know that. But I'm a wuss...I just want to avoid major discomfort. And yes, you're right PRB, it is definitely worth the cost. This is to be my third 4 week pack, so I thought I might give it a try. With close monitoring. I'm not going to jeopardize my quit to save a few dollars. I'll be interested to hear from others as they go off it. Sounds like it's not much of a problem. Yeah, MomMom, I'll miss those dreams too : ) KITA!!!!!! 50 DAYS!!!!!! HOW AWESOME!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 49 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,985 Amount Saved: $333.2 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 19 Mins: 57 Seconds: 11
