Weaning off chantix/Halfing the dosage?

Hi Moss! Chantix is pretty amazing isn't it?! A friend of mine who is a Dr. told me to be sure to stay on it for at least 12 weeks. I cut back to 1 a day at 8 weeks. I'm now at 10 1/2 weeks and still taking 1 a day. I think I will go to 1 every other day when I get to 12 weeks. I'm a little apprehensive about getting off of it completely. You are doing awesome with your quit! You ARE a nonsmoker!!! Hi and thanks to you Aloha and Danielle. I think I'm beginning to get a better sense of how deep some of this experience can go, and how fragile it can be. I've always had to think everything to death before I can get it through this thick skull. I wish I could simplify the thought process sometimes. But you know what, I went and got the Chantix instead of getting cigarettes and quite frankly I am surprised I did that. Maybe I actually am becoming a non-smoker. Moss, Glad I found one that hit home for you. As you see from this thread, there are many different successful approaches to using chantix. However, going the full 12 week course, or nearly so, seems to be necessary for many of us. Read through the literature that came with the meds to get a full understanding of the research results. If I remember correctly, when you tried to go cold turkey, it was very difficult for you. I think maybe you tried to go off the chantix too soon. These 12 weeks give your brain chemistry a chance to begin adjusting to the lack of nicotine, and your mind a chance to develop different responses to old familiar triggers. You're doing great, just hang in and keep posting. Soon you will truly feel like a nonsmoker. It takes some time. Moss, Thank you for sharing your experience. Don't be too hard on yourself for staying on Chantix. See this as a golden opportunity to build up your coping strategies and face smoking-related triggers and challenges. You get stronger by the day, keep building. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

Woke up feeling human again today. I went back on the chantix 5 days ago after a week of hell. No matter what I did I could not get my head right. I think enough got back in to my system to make a difference, Well, now I know that it helps. I was wondering how much of it was just mind over matter, willpower, but this little drug definitely helps control the cravings. I wanted to get off as soon as possible but after this experience will stay on for at least another month. I'm not quite as strong as I thought but that is ok. Most importantly, I don't want to start smoking again. Somebody was asking about side effects. Just my 2 cents but for me none the first month except more vivid dreams. And one of them was one of the best dreams I ever had. And Thanks for the bump. i cut back to one pill last week and have now been off of them for 3 days. i'm doing ok...have had some craves, nothing major. i have been feeling kinda spacey the last 2 days, and very tired. that kinda sounds like early withdrawal huh?? i am at a much better place now in my quit...i have learned how to not smoke for the last 64 days. i know i wouldn't be at this point if i didn't take the Chantix though. it is all worth it!
