Pat, My heart goes out to you. This is not going to have a happy ending but you are strong and you can handle it. Your mother is blessed to have you. Enjoy the holidays. Cherrish the memories. I believe as quitters, we all wonder at some point or another if we quit in time. We don't get to decide. Just remember that all things work for the greater good. There is purpose even in your mothers pain. When it appears you can't bare anymore, close your eyes and feel the good Lord wrapping his arms around you and providing you with comfort. He will continue to give you the strength you need. Most importantly, do not smoke no matter what. We are here for you. My friends, I am smiling through my tears as I read all these wonderfuly supportive posts....you can't know how very much they mean to me today of all days. I want to thank each and every one of you for being here for me. I am at an all time low on the positivity scale and needed some cheering up. Today was the day my Mom chose to come to grips with the reality that is her life. She blames her smoking for a lot of her problems now, even though she's been quit for over 16 years. I do not know how much time Mom has left but today she woke up and seemed to have aged overnight by at least 10 years. Hopefully the adjustments we made to her medications today will help her rebound tomorrow. I don't think she's anywhere near the end, and I suspect she will cheer up with family coming for the holidays. The cancer clinic is going to be sending someone to visit to offer her emotional support. I can only pray that Mom can pass in her sleep when the time comes...she told me today that she is ready and wants it to come soon. Once she'd taken the opportunity to speak her mind, she began to feel more peaceful. I may be too busy preparing for the masses of family expected to arrive for Christmas to post until after the holidays. I'm off to get some rest now. Thanks again for keeping Mom and I in your prayers. Happy Holidays everyone and may the magic of Christmas be in your heart all year. :) Luv, Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 326 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,040 Amount Saved: $4,564.00 Life Gained: Days: 38 Hrs: 12 Mins: 52 Seconds: 37

Hi Pat! Remember to take care of you, too, as its easy to get run down and tired especially when under this kind of stress! You do the best you can, and that is enough, even when it feels like it's never enough. We have just been through the asessment process for my father in law, as he has advanced Lymphoma and the family can't care for him anymore, so I know what you have to face. If you need to vent, come here, we are here for you. Sending prayers! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 289 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,225 Amount Saved: $3,048.95 Life Gained: Days: 35 Hrs: 8 Mins: 59 Seconds: 28

So sorry to hear about your Mom. It is good that you can spend time with her. You are both in my prayers and so glad that you are strong in your quit. Cancer is an awful thing as Sparky said and maybe one of these days they will have a way to cure it once and fore all. You have been on my mind every since I read this. How to respond, we just do. You know there are many here who have you and your mother in their prayers, me included. Cancer is an awful thing. It now only touches the person it touches everyone. I don't want to make this about me and I won't. I have been there more than I want and more than I ever want to see someone go through. Focus on your time with your mother. Focus on HER needs, yours will be taken care of later. When she wants something done and you think there is time for it later, do it, just do it. When she wants to talk, listen. When she says she is not hungry don't try to make her eat it will only upset her and you. Pictures oh my get as many as you can. Find out her favorite movies, her favorite books, what made and makes her happy. If there are family recipes, get them before they are lost. Hug her and tell her how much you love her. Just know you are not alone, I care I really do. Keep the Quit (((HUGS))) and here is a shoulder Sparky/Sharon My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 233 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,330 Amount Saved: $349.50 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 10 Mins: 6 Seconds: 51
