HI! I'm new! Is this a symptom?

My girl, I'm sure it's normal. Many people go to the dentist just to have their teeth cleaned and get rid of stains. It's a real moral booster. Most know that smoking causes periodontal disease. I have a beautiful set of teeth but I have bad gums. They look fine...but I have deep pockets. Now..... I always thought that to have periodontal disease your gums bleed. Mine never did!! I learned that my gums never bled as smoking cuts off the blood supply to the gums. Nicotine also has a paralyzing effect on many parts of the body....including your mouth tissues. I would think your mouth is finally waking up!! LOL Your doing great Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 318 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,360 Amount Saved: $1,421.46 Life Gained: Days: 41 Hrs: 19 Mins: 52 Seconds: 33

It could be tension 4mygirl! Smoking is extremely bad for teeth, mouth & gums! That did happen to me too, lasted a week or so. Later on when I was tense I was also clenching my teeth at night, which gave me grief during the day. Smoking affects so many aspects of our lives, and we don't even realize it until after we've quit! Hang in there! It all gets better! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 275 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,875 Amount Saved: $2,901.25 Life Gained: Days: 33 Hrs: 15 Mins: 9 Seconds: 30

Hi 4mygirl, and welcome. I really can't say anything about the sore mouth, I didn't go through that. We all have different problems when we quit. Mine have already been posted, and the people here have helped me sort through them for more than a month now. Stick with these people. Any problem you come up with during your quit, someone has already dealt with. It's really wonderful to know we aren't alone in this. Post often, and make sure to hang tough. You're doing great. Only 4 more days to get through hell week. You can do it. Thank you guys so much for the advice and support. This site has been a life-line for the past 3 days! I thought seeing the money I've saved would be inspiration for me, and it is, but seeing all the cigs I have NOT smoked added up...WOW! That is a big supportive factor! Especially when you multiply it by aprox. 5 minutes each- that's alot of time wasted!! I will try some sensitivity toothpaste and I think I may be clenching too, maybe a combo of all that stuff. I can't thank you all enough for your encouragement!!! 4mygirl, Yes, this is a symptom and I have experienced it too. If you have the same problem as me, it's sensitive teeth. By quitting smoking, your mouth is going through changes (more oxygen...etc.) and as Josie said, healing itself. You probably have always had sensitive teeth, but now it is more severe, or the sensitivity has increased by the nicotine withdrawl. I know it sounds strange.....and I am by no means an expert in the health profession, but this is how it was explained to me once by a nurse. I would recommend that you use a sensitivity toothpaste (if you don't already) and use a daily flouride rinse. And if it continues or gets worse, do check with your doctor or dentist. Way to go on your first two days, and good luck! 4mygirl, Congrats on 3 days! Your body is healing and it will take some time! You will experience many different things, so be aware that if any symptom persists, check with your doctor,to rule out anything medical :) Josie, Support Specialist

First of all, congratulations on your first three days...that is awesome! I know you are very proud of yourself. I also used the gum for a couple of days, but it made my jaws and teeth hurt so I quit using it. So your mouth might be sore from the gum...also make sure you aren't clenching your teeth. You're doing great...let us know how we can help or just keep us posted on your progress. Hi. I just want to say I don't think I could have quit if it weren't for this site!! The day I quit I chewed some of the nicotine gum, it really helped with the cravings that day, but I feel like I don't really need it any more, so I haven't used it in a couple of days. I'm going thru the dizziness, etc., but my cravings aren't too bad (yay!!). Anyway, the symptom I am concerned about is that my teeth are hurting!! Is this a normal symptom of withdrawl? Or a normal symptom associated with the gum? Let me know what you guys think! Thanks!!
