Day 2 and really craving

You can do this, excel. And, I noticed your signature "Live life to the fullest"...well, nicotine addiction will rob you of doing that, so, make up your mind..you are quitting the poisonous smoke! Use any distraction that you can think of. Do you read novels? Now might be a good time to start. Go to the library and get some of the NY times bestsellers..a good read can keep your mind engrossed..and OFF of thinking about smoking. Do not light that next cig and you will be a quitter. Best wishes. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 191 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,584 Amount Saved: $955.00 Life Gained: Days: 26 Hrs: 8 Mins: 26 Seconds: 48

Keep doing what you're doing! Just don't smoke....NOPE! I can promise you it gets so much better, but you have to stick it! Watch a favorite movie, take a nicely scented bath, drink lots of water, and visit here often. excel Yippee!!! What a great decision! Yes on the water. Also, little bites of treats whenever you get through a craving. And pamper yourself a little bit every day for this hard thing you're doing. There are a few more students on here...maybe you folks could form a support group within a support group? It is really helpful to have a few "special buds". But all of us will hep in any way we can. If you ever feel like you're caving, please post a new message with the word HELP in it, go distract yourself for 5-20 minutes, with a walk, with a shower, with whatever, then come back and someone will most likely be there to talk you through it. Okay? I'm really happy for you My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 251 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,040 Amount Saved: $1,706.80 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 23 Mins: 29 Seconds: 43

Hey Excel, Hang on tight girl! You are almost through the worst. It doesn't matter how bad you feel the addiciton is, you CAN overcome it and you are doing it! Get yourself some cold water, hard candy, gum, straws, chocolate and settle in here. Read everything you can here, old posts and new, it really helps! Do the program and stick with it. Use self talk lots too, pump yourself up for this, you can do it and we are proof that anyone can do it! It gets so much better, it is so worth the effort! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 267 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,675 Amount Saved: $2,816.85 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 15 Mins: 38 Seconds: 6

Hi Excel, Welcome to the group! Just as the members mentioned, our online quit program is a great starting point. Start working through it. Specifically, you'll find a few exercises that zero in on how to cope with stress without resulting to nicotine as a crutch. Keep us posted. Danielle - Bilingual Health Educator

Hi Charlotte! First allow me to say Congratulations on your decision to quit. I so wish I had quit seven years in. You are doing such a wonderful thing for your future! The best advice I can give you is to work the program here. Do the workbook exercises and read every word of it. There are tips and info in there that made all the difference for me. I'm not exagerating when I say this program was the key to my success. The other things that worked... lots and lots and lots of cold water. I carried a water bottle with me everywhere I went for at least a month. I also took lots of deep breaths which seemed to almost replace the act of smoking. Seriously, deep breathing followed by ice cold water saved my life. I also ate a ton, sucked on hard cinnamon candies, exercised about 3 hours or so a day, took a lot of walks and lived on these boards. Take it easy on yourself and stay strong. It's only hard for a little while. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 94 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,820 Amount Saved: $549.90 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 10 Mins: 22 Seconds: 55

Boy, did you come to the right place! First I'd like to say welcome, and right now is the hardest part of your quit. The thing I did, and so many others have, is when we had the urge to smoke, we let our fingers do the walking right here. I was fortunate to have two others on line here quit within 12 hours of each other. We kept in very close contact on SSC. This gave me the willpower to stay quit. I smoked for 35 years, and these people here can see you through the toughest trials. Congratulations on the fist step Charlotte, and don't hesitate to post often and ask for help. You'll get all the advice you need on this site - and more!! Well done for making the decision to quit. Keep on reading lots of posts on here and posting some more yourself. I can't say one particular thing that will make it easier for you. I quit cold turkey - after about 40 years of smoking - because I had just had enough. Great to have made it to day 2. Keep on keeping on. Hi Everyone, I am new here and quit smoking yesterday. I have been smoking for 7 years (not that long when I read about you) but I have developed a really strong addiction, I smoke about 20-25 per day and on weekends or stressful periods it is even worse. While trying to avoid a cig I found this site and it looks really amazing. I quit smoking yesterday and made it through these 2 day okay. Today was really hard though and I am dreading tomorrow morning when I wake up and want a cig so badly. Any suggestions, I really want to make this quit work? Thanks Charlotte
