Gin, Sleeping disturbances among new quitters is fairly common. Smoking increased your metabolism, this used up a good chunk of your energy. Now that you've quit, you're in a surplus your body isn't use to. It will adjust with time. While you wait, you may find it helpful to expend that extra energy via some form of physical activity. Good Morning Gin, Isn't it strange how we struggle to let go of the constant thoughts. Here you are about a week in to this adventure and still not smoking. I'm right beside you. I think yesterday was the first day I felt that I could perform a task and actually concentrate on it without having to constantly shoo away the thoughts. Tell that unwelcome passenger that your brain train is already full, please find a different one, thank you very much. Sleeping has been one of the more interesting aspects of the quit. I've used that phrase, wired for sound, in my own mind several times this week. I feel like a cat. Sound asleep one moment and in a split second up with eyes open and pounce ready. Once again we have to trust all these folks when they tell us "give it some time, it will pass". Congrats for approaching the 1 week mark. Thanks all of you for the encouragement. It helps me tremendously. I don't know what I'm going to do for a reward, but I do know that I will attending a meeting tomorrow night which I'm looking forward to. It will help to keep my mind off smoking. I don't know if I can sleep tonight...I'm wired for sound. I don't know what came over me but I'm wound up like a spinning top. I hope it will pass. Is that unusual to go through something like that? hey Gin, for weeks I would think of smoking. ie...last time I did this I smoked here, or last time I ate here I smoked, in fact when I went to the beach the week I quit I was worried about going smoke free. That stops, pretty soon you do all the things you used to, but as a non-smoker. Now, when I run into smokers, the smell of smoking, etc...it irritates me, I guess I am one of those quitters, the annoying kind :) Anyway, pretty soon you notice other smells, other things, your surroundings and you don't think about it so much. Plan a big reward, a week is HUGE!! Gin Yes, as normal as an evening moon rising. The sad fact of the matter is that we are addicts. We have bought into a cycle that we obsessively repeated like the constant beat of waves on the shoreline. But I would say that you have already begun to chip away at the monotony of the addiction cycle. You began to break free from it when you made the decision to come to this site. You have done an amazing thing for yourself by living through a week sans the cigarettes. Now you will become stronger in your ability to adapt to a new way of being and as you do your thoughts of smoking will fade. Oh don't get me wrong, I imagine for some of us the thought rises up every now and again. The difference is that it is only a thought and not an obsession. The former is a thing that can be entertained or dismissed, the latter is a thing that must be obeyed. Keep practicing the things that have brought you through your first week and you will become stronger as time passes. I promise that is does get better, even though in some moments, your conscious mind will not allow you to accept that reality. That is when you must move through on faith and determination and the knowledge that there are many people here who want you to succeed and will offer a hand as needed. So stay close to this site, the mere act of posting has saved my quit on many occasions. Gin, It is pretty normal to think about smoking. Try to distract yourself or do things to get your mind off of it, walking, cooking, talking to friends, a puzzle, anything that takes your mind off of it. Well I'm heading towards a week now and I feel pretty good. The cravings aren't so bad...a bit more manageable. Going out later and hope it will get my mind off smoking. That's all I've been doing is thinking about smoking...is that normal? It's very irritating to say the least. Hope you all have a smoke-free day and take care.
