Gin, I hope you made it today. We all know what you are going though. You feel like you want to hit something or someone, you want to yell and tear at you skin. You asking yourself if you have done the right thing. There is all kinds of thoughts and some actions going on right now, they do pass. In the mean time listen to what has been offered to you. Breathe. As you breathe in think I am healing myself, exhale I am getting rid of all the bad junk. Do this about ten times and if the crave is still there do it again. Now drink some cold water, feel it go down your throat, ahhh now doesn't that feel good. Let us know how you are doing. Screaming and breaking dishes sometimes helps too, I'm kidding sort of :) Mostly try not to think about it, I think Nonic called it changing the channel. Whenever you start to think about it just say NOPE and think of something else, early in the quit it's like nope,nope,nope,nope,nope but they get farther and farther apart til soon you only have to say nope a few times a day. Gin - I'm with Lady on this one. Deep breaths and water to replace the cigarette are what worked for me. I noticed when I forgot these things that the cravings were worse and harder to deal with. The third day is supposed to be the worst. Cravings peak on day three. It really does get a lot better from here on out. You will find yourself having more time during the day that is not a struggle and the struggles being more managable. Hang tough. It's an exhausting process but well worth it and, although it may not seem like the struggle will ever end, the intense struggles are relatively short lived. From here everyday will be a little easier. As far as that morning cigarette goes, it was hard for me too. I am not a morning person like some and I was a pretty dedicated smoker (first thing in the morning - sometimes before I even got out of bed!) so I replaced it with my laptop and this site. I refuse to give up my coffee as some others have done so my routine stayed pretty much the same with the exception of replacing my cigarette with The SSC. Hold out a little longer and have faith in yourself. Gin -- I don't think you can get "rid" of the cravings, but I think you can get "through" them. During my first few days frequently it was a matter of just getting through the next hour without giving in. I know how difficult it is for you right now and it seems like smoking will end your suffering. But the only way to truly feel good again is not to smoke. Do whatever you have to do not to smoke and get through these withdrawal days -- go down the list of everything people have suggested here and whatever you think could get you through. And if those don't work, start at the top and go down the list again. You can do it. Hang in there! HI, Gin. You can do this, you're almost through the worst part! Lots of people have had trouble in the morniong. ALoha's advice to change your morning routine is right on. What also worked for me was taking a shower & brushing my teeth very first thing. That way, I smell good & my mouth tastes fresh by the time I'm fully awake & I don't want to wreck that with gross, filthy, disgusting, stinky smoke. Hang in, Gin, it gets so much better & it is so worth it. Gin, I thought the 3rd day was the worse not the 4th. I think because they say it takes 72 hours to get the nicotine out of your system. I did several things to get through the tough times. I sucked on peppermint everytime I wanted to smoke. I drank ice water and took a lot of really deep breaths. Try to find something that takes your mind off of smoking. I understand this is next to impossible but I promise you it does pass. Something I kept repeating to myself and posted everywhere was: Every day is one day closer to never feeling this way again. Each day you make it through makes you that much stronger for the next. You will be amazed at how great you feel being a non-smoker. No one can explain the freedom, you have to experience it for yourself. Dig deep, pull out every bit of strength that you have and just don't smoke. As long as you don't light that next cigarette you have got it made! Also, remember that each time you smoke you are starting all over again from day one. Refuse to give in; Refuse to go back. You CAN do it@!!!!
