Phoenix - good for you! Set your meter also, watch those days and dollars build up, it really translate your quit efforts into some thing tangible you can watch grow. Phoenix, You sound great. You smell good too. Drink a lot of water in the next days and stay close to the site. Writing down your thoughts is very theraputic. Well it looks like you are showing that junkie who is in charge. Yes the 12 steps work very well. I use step one, two and three all the time ;p, but don't forget the others. That junkie chatter can be horrible, but you can and will get though it. It is just a moment in time, the next moment you can reflect on I am a non-smoke. Just do it!!! phoenix, you're doing it right! Be good to yourself, do whatever yuo need to do to not light up. If you want to sleep, sleep. Whateverit takes to get your quit off to a strong start. Keep rejecting the junkie thoughts, keep distracting yourself & most of all, keep quitting! Welcome to Day 1. I've been waiting for you. It sounds like you are prepared to not let the Junkie win. Good plan. NOPE. If 15 minutes is too long a goal, make it 5. As difficult as it may seem, try not to have conversations with the Junkie. Screaming out loud often quietens the thoughts. It will get easier as you go along. Keep busy. Keep reading. Sparky has a good motto - Remember HALT. Often times I forget the eating part too. I used to just smoke cigarettes, not it seems I'm drinking coffee. Oh yeah, but back on the caffeine too. OK - so here you go. One day at a time. Keep posting and try out the IM - lots of good souls here wanting to help anyone with DESIRE. BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT. It's 1 pm 13Sep07. I quit 9 pm 12Sep07. So that's 16 hrs, right? I'm trying to be gentle to myself. Thanks, Rusty, for your post. Most of those hours I spent sleeping. I lay in bed this am 'til the noise in my head drove me into activity. Bizarre idiotic ideas punctuated by cravings and my addict wanting to pick a fight (I know I'd lose - when I fight my addict, I lose) - instead I used the advice of one of you (Sparky, I think) - that's junkie thinking. I gave myself permission to think any thought, I just wouldn't light up right now. When hit with a powerful craving - prayer. My addict is devious. It's saying "You're going down." I know there'll be tricks & traps. I'm hoping to keep it really simple and say, "That's all fine ... but we are not going to smoke that first cigarette." I pray that I can keep away from the first one, even if just for the next 15 minutes. I setting little goals - I'm meeting friends tonite so I want to be smoke-free til then. The next stretch is Fri I have a DR appt! I would absolutely love it to stay clean 'til then. Then another goal, etc. I'm using the Twelve Steps, people... pls don't boot me off your site. I can't use the Nicotine Anonymous site 'cuz I don't have a mike for the meetings. I prefer bulletin boards like this. I have to beware of over-confidence. If I start thinking "That was easy, I can quit any old time." Then I'll start again - tricky addict. I'm realizing it's an oral thing - when I crave, I feel the tension in my mouth area. Which reminds me, I haven't had lunch. Thank you for being there.
