How many times do I have to quit?

17 years ago 0 880 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Lucy I guess when we choose to make ourselves better, we don't always get to choose the setting in which we will accomplish our goal. I did not have to be in the company of smokers during my journey, so it is hard for me to offer any advice, except to say that this is in many ways a solitary journey. However, you have the solidity of this group and there are people who have faced your situation and seen it through...Listen to them and take hope in the fact that they are making great progress in spite of the obstacles faced... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 258 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,740 Amount Saved: $2,709.00 Life Gained: Days: 47 Hrs: 2 Mins: 24 Seconds: 25

Lucy, I am so sorry that you have to be around smokers, espeically the first few days.. My husband smokes and sometime, I want to knock him out and take the cigs away from him.. He has agreed not smoke around me and he locks his cigs in his car so that I can not get to them... I have also stayed away from my 2 best friends.. they smoke only in the evenings.. I am just not ready to hang out with them over drinks and cigs. Do you best to stay focused!! Maybe you didn't get grouchy enough to make an impression on em? Maybe if they found their smokes chopped into pieces they would hide them? I make sure to look away anytime I see a pack or a smoker. It's getting a lot easier now though and I look at the poor fools and feel far superior. Lucy, There will always be other smokers. You have to stick to your guns. You may also find it helpful to ask your friends to contain their smoking to one room of the house. They can also leave their cigarettes their. In the end though, there will be temptations and it will all comes down to the choice you make. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Lucy how about this? When you find their cigs, put them in a drawer...and tell yourself how strong you are. Works for me ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 170 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,800 Amount Saved: $1,156.00 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 18 Mins: 47 Seconds: 23

Hi Lucy, I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, but...you only have to quit once. And it is totally up to you. Yes, it's hard with smokers around. Believe me, I know. My husband smokes. Both my sons, my boss, my coworkers.....all smokers. And perhaps it's easy for me to say, but all you have to do is want it bad enough. You have to hang onto your quit with all your might. You can't blame the loss of your quit on others. They didn't put the cigarette in your mouth and light it. You did that. You can quit. If you want to bad enough, you will, regardless of the circumstances around you. I know you can do it.
