One of my best friends died about 7 years ago from cancer. I recently watched a video I took of him from my last trip up north. He complained of a cramp in his shoulder and thought it was a pulled muscle, 7 months later he was dead. He was only a few years older than me. He smoked Kool cigarettes, apparently his lungs crystalized. Thanks BJ, I used to switch channels too and now on the radio the hospitals are advertising for your business in the cure for cancer they all say they are the best. I used to turn my car radio off when they came on I was really running scared until one day I just surrendered and fill the script for Chantix that I had been holding for 6 months and with the help of all on this site here I am today. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 153 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,060 Amount Saved: $994.50 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 16 Mins: 14 Seconds: 36

Thanks to all of you for your posts and prayers following my last post. I do think that smokers tend to allow the junkie thoughts to tell them that it won't happen to them. I can remember when i did smoke seeing those anti smoking ads on Tv and i would change the channel because i didn't want to hear the truth and didn't want to think for a second that it could happen to me so i just chose to NOT think about it but i thought more about it once my Dad was diagnosed with throat cancer! He has survived but i think he has now become a closet smoker!! You just have to take one day at a time! For those of you quitting....be good to yourself and reward yourself!!! I did!! Happy quitting~ BJ My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 596 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,920 Amount Saved: $1,609.20 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 11 Mins: 55 Seconds: 16

BJ Thanks for taking the time to share this. I agree that sometimes the true reason for quitting takes a backseat - NICOTINE KILLS. I will put this family in my prayers and your husband BJ!!! BJ, This is sad news. We all know that as smokers we are playing Russian Roulette with our lives. It is such a horrible addiction that we are prepared to do this despite the fact that we will deeply hurt our loved ones should we be next in line. If there are any positives to be gained from this, it is that the news might shock your husband into quitting. Let's hope so. Thanks for this post BJ. Tell that family that they are in my prayers. I hope your husband will quit soon, smoking is bad. Maybe with your help he can. Thank you for that post BJ. If there were only a way to take it all back, back up the clock to a time before the illness set in so quitting smoking could have a chance to make a difference in their lives. I can think of many examples of, "if we only knew" stories. Have you read Joe Cool's post? It's a tragedy that so many are getting sick from smoking. It's also never a mild case of anything you hear about. The illnesses are accompanied by words like chronic, life threatening and terminal. The cost is too high... Hi BJ Thank you so much for posting this story. It's really sad and my prayers are with that family. Sometimes when we are battling with our craving and our junkie thoughts, we tend to forget why it's so important to stop smoking. What you just did is remind us how much we need to be strong and fight our way threw this journey. The quit is WAY LESS hard than what that lady and her family will have to go threw.
