Quit yesterday

16 years ago 0 155 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hang in there Sara! My husband smoked too. After a few weeks of me not smoking, he quit too. I did not pressure my husband to quit. I went through some pretty bad times at the very beginning with him still smoking, but got great advice from the people on this site. The only thing I did do was shared with him what I was going through, just like anything else in our lives. I would tell him how it went that day, what my quit symptoms were, and finally after a few weeks how much easier it was, how much better I felt, how proud I was of myself. I believe I set an example for him and made quitting more reachable for him. Just remember, it is YOUR quit. Protect it. YOU CAN DO IT!!! In some respects living with a partner that smokes is not a bad thing - look at the ashtrays, that's a good reminder of how unpleasant this habit is. Hang on in there - one hour at a time, one day at a time. It great not having to worry about if others can smell cigarette smoke on you. Hello Sara, u sound like me, practice rounds are what I call them too b/c that's exactly what they are. You've got me beat with 18mos, that was a serious practice round. I made it to 16 mos a little over a yr ago. This site definitely helped BIG TIME. There tons of love here but it's up to you to accept it :) I don't know if this is my final quit or another practice round. Quite a few times in the past few days, including today, I honestly didn't think I was gonna make it but I did. I'm taking my quit serious but I'm also not taking it to the extreme like I usually do. I've accepted that I'm weak and have a terrible addiction to a drug that kills. So I'm just taking it one day at a time, sometimes 30 seconds at a time,,,4real, lol. Especially tonight :( The desire to quit, be a non-smoker, have energy & smell good, has to be stronger than the desire to smoke. Tonight I choose to smell good :) So as u can see you are not in it alone. You'll get more love in here than you can imagine. Congratulations on being a non-smoker, u know u can do it. Just breathe....... Sara, It's all about you now. Be self absorb and focused. I bet hubby will be feeling a little guilty and perhaps jealous as time goes by. You just might be doing him a big favor. Ask anyone...others around you eventually quit too from your example. Be very prepared and know your triggers. You've done this before so I'm sure you already know things that work for you. Wow....6 months is a long time. YOU did it before...so...I just know you can do it again. Do you chrochet? If you do.... that will keep you hands plenty busy at night in front of the TV. You can have an afagan finished before the cold weather comes. You'll do just fine. Remember..... your not asked to give up anything you love in life....except smoke. You can do everything you have always done and enjoyed....just not smoke. It's not so bad when you look at it that way. HI SARA, YOU ARE RIGHT YOU CAN DO THIS. NICOTINE IS VERY ADDICTIVE AND ADDICTIONS ARE HARD TO BREAK BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE.REMEMBER THIS IS YOUR QUIT. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU DO, IT IS YOUR QUIT. BE GOOD TO YOURSELF,TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND BE PROUD OF EACH HOUR YOU ARE SMOKE FREE. THE HOURS TURN TO DAYS AND DAY TO WEEKS AND THATS AS FAR AS I HAVE GOTTEN.LOL I AM VERY PROTECTIVE OF MY QUIT. ALL THE TRIGGERS I AM AWARE OF ARE LISTED IN A DAILY JOURNAL. I LEARN EVERY DAY FROM THIS SITE AND YOU CAN TOO. Hi Sara, welcome. Maybe you can convince your husband to quit, I convinced mine. All he can do is say he isn't ready. Give it a shot. Hang in, sounds like you have done this before, hopefully this time it will stick. Hi, Sara, welcome to the site. You checked in here before I think, about a month ago? Glad to see you committed and ready to quit. You'll do great! Sara Sounds like you are ready to be a nonsmoker for life. It might be helpful to look at what the triggers were to end your previous quits, so you can develop a strategy for dealing with those ahead of time. My son still smokes in the house and I was clear from the beginning that this is my quit, not his. So his smoking has nothing to do with me. Looking forward to following you through your quit. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 130 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,200 Amount Saved: $884.00 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 5 Mins: 19 Seconds: 57
