Sara, Good luck and welcome to the support group. I don't post much but read them all the time. It really helps and there is so much advice here. Sometimes we have to take it one minute at a time. Remember tomorrow is always going to be easier than today. Sara, Welcome to our support community and thanks for sharing! Your roller coaster will end here :) We are here to help and assist in every way possible, so let us guide you through. Prepare yourself and stay away from situations that will tempt you. Use the program to help get you started. Coping mechanisms and avoidance techniques can help you push those craves to the curb. We are ready when you are :) Josie, Support Specialist

Hi Sara Welcome to the site. You've come to the right place. Fill in the bits on the side and do the programme and then your stats will show after you message. I got fed up with smoking too and quit cold turkey. My boyfriend also smoked at the time but I never really minded when he went outside. Then he got tired of that (it was raining a lot) so he too has given up. It doesn't seem like it now but this is the best thing you have done. Just hang on in there, read a lot here and post when you feel like it. Welcome Sara! You've made a great choice to quit! Have your coping mechanisms ready....drink lots of water, keep a list of your reasons to quit closeby, use candy, gum, whatever...just no smokes. What was really helpful for me was slow deep breaths during a crave. It mimicked the drag from a cig, but I imagined the clean air filling my lungs. I didn't do the straw, but it helps many. And I pretty much lived on this site at first, it really helps to read that what you're feeling is normal. Positive self talk worked for me, just telling myself that I'm a nonsmoker now...period. My hubby also was smoking when I decided to quit, its hard but doable. After a few days he smelled so bad when he smoked that it actually helped me in realizing I made the right choice. And, after 6 months, he followed my lead and is now celebrating 200 days without a cigarette. Stay close, and ask for help if you need it. This place is amazing! It told me to introduce myslef, so here I am. My name is Sara, I am 30 yrs old, live in Maine, and am tired of smoking. I have smoked for 18 yrs, and figure that is long enough. I have had a couple semi sucessful quits in the past, once for 6 months, and another time for 18 months, and a lot of not so sucessful attemps 3-7 days. I call it practice rounds. I am getting tired of the withdrawals and edgy feelings so think that I should stay quit for good this time. I look forward to hearing from you with any ideas on what to do with my hands. My mom sugessted carring around a straw, I think I will get one today. I am married to a wonderful man who is a smoker. It makes it hard sometimes to see him going outside for a smoke when I am having a strong craving, but so far am hanging on. I know that I can do this. Sara
