Seems to me those companys could spend thier testing money to lobbying against Big Tobacco Companys who market this addiction. If smoking leads to more sick days off, and we all know it makes you sick, why is it still legal? tax money. It all comes back to the almighty Dollar. Studies show more and more people in modern countries are stopping smoking. So where are the tobacco companies marketing thier products now? Africa and Sudan. I just wonder if genetic testing might be in the future? I have a history of Alzhiemers in my family. They might test for that in the future. It's all kind of scary what the next 20 years might bring. Okay, now getting into your food intake is a little invasive. :8o: I didn't mean to get something started here - I was just posting what I had heard on the radio, not realizing that this topic was a train wreck in the past. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers..... That is beyond dispicable. I would not work for a company like that! What is our world coming to? I hate the thought of my grandchildren having to work in the future with such ideals, after spending a lifetime of us trying to teach them 'not to discriminate, and that all men are created equal and deserve equality." And you are saying this is legal??? Most places that I have seen refuse to hire people who smoke. The problem with being allowed to get away with this is that these kinds of practices tend to expand. For instance, a pioneer company in hiring only non-smokers and firing those who smoke and don't quit is now measuring body fat percentage. Everyone who patted themselves on the back for not smoking is getting hit yet again. By measuring body fat, it includes those who are not overweight, not fat, and might actually be thin! You have to not only be thin, but have the "correct" muscle to fat ratio. All for your own good of course. Some companies are requiring not only urine tests but blood tests as well to determine triglyceride levels to make sure that not only are you not too fat, that you have the correct muscle to fat ratio, but you don't indulge in fatty, salty or sweet foods to excess and then diet or exercise it off before the next test. All for your own good, of course. And it all started with allowing companies to refrain from hiring, or outright firing people who smoke. I used to work in recruiting and even back then (about 6-7 years ago or so), I had clients who did not want to see candidates who smoked. Even in bleeding heart Canada, Lainey! The company I worked for confirmed that it is not illegal or in violation of any human rights. The radio station was kind of debating it too...I am not saying it is wrong or right, I am just glad that I don't have to worry about it! Smoking is just not acceptable anywhere any more. Think about children, they will not be as exposed to smoking and will probably be less likely to even pick it up. If you are a college student and you know your chances of getting a job are slim if you smoke, are you going to start??? If I had my own business (as a new non smoker) I would rather hire a non smoker for the same reasons mentioned below. Now that I think about it, I think it is awesome!
