JDK Thread #5

Hi Nance, Thanks for the advice and posting. Was trying to post on my last thread to you with errors. Say hi to Pat for me. I try to take each day as it comes. I'm not thinking too far ahead. Mostly, I am trying to not think about smoking at all (not easy as those nicodemons are immense even on top whack NRT). Its an entirely new quit this time around, having got up the courage and seeked professional advice (i'm quite shy really :) ). I also read the junkies survival guide thread on a daily basis. I really don't understand what the causes of a hard or easy quit are still mind you. I really need to get educated on that. Any ideas are good. I'd like to go for the easier quit for once if i can. Yes I am still confused a lot of the time. I guess it is a valid question right? You're very right about not smoking being its own reward. It is the best reward I could ever give myself. Its the #1 reason why I keep going at it until I get it right. My frame of mind is 'optimistic' at the moment. Hi Kev, Congratulations on having another go at it. I know the new ban in the UK will help you. I just want to say a few words about anticipation: There are many quitters who anticipate the quit to be all-consuming and extremely difficult for weeks. They are constantly thinking about the memories of smoking, and triggers are everywhere and difficult to fight. For those quitters, it is very hard. Some quitters don't anticipate, but rather take each day as it comes without any expectation of how it will be. Some days are much easier than others, for sure, but a positive attitude goes a long way. I am not saying this makes a quit "easy", but it sure beats being miserable on a daily basis, waiting for the next trigger. If we expect something to be difficult, our minds will make it so. Please keep your eye on the prize. Don't waver from your desire to quit and you will be successful. Not smoking is it's own reward, in addition to any others you have planned. I'm still here, and I am really pulling for you! Hi Phil, Nice to see ya! So i decided to co-incide my quit with a certain someone else. :) Well my phrase is 'NO MATTER WHAT' and am currently sticking to it. It could be an easier quit this time, what with the new law and all that. Don't worry, I have no cigarettes on me and don't plan to go to the shops. I am glad I have you peeps to keep me in check. Anyway, I don't want a visit from Mrs Phil unless she comes with some cakes! Hi Danielle, Thanks. I am not smoking any more since Saturday night. I just have the patches and inhaler as prescribed. Quite glad really because I am quite spaced out at the moment. The prescribed amount is : 1 x 21 mg 24 hour patch ( a day) 6 x nicotine capsules ( a day) To be honest, I've been using maybe 1 or 2 capsules a day to avoid overdosing on nicotine. Assuming that is possible. Kev mate You are making hard work of this. Well it is hard but you are making it harder on yourself.. One of my pet phrases when one of my people asks if they should do something is to ask them if they think it is right and if they say yes I just say 'DO IT!' So Kev DO IT! JDK, We have locked thread #4 for you. It sounds like your preparations are going well. Please keep in mind that smoking while being on the patch is not recommended. Keep us posted. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist
