22 weeks pregnant...help?

Hi baby, I know that you probably know all of the negative side effects smoking can have on your unborn child. AND, i do not want to be a preacher of doom, but, we need to face reality. I was in my late 30's when i had my last child. I smoked the entire pregnancy. I don't know, I just did not think that it was that bad for you. That was before all the awareness of nicotine addiciton, diseases that are related to smoking, etc. I had a pretty easy go of it for my first 3 children. i even had my 3rd at home with a midwife and was planning that for my fourth. But, i went into premature labor ( one of the warnings on the sides of cig packs for pregnant women). My precious child was born 2 months early, 4lbs 9oz. Thank God, he was alright. I stayed with him almost every minute in the premie nursery, so I could get him breast feeding and he would have a good bonding experience. I got to bring him home after just 6 days and he is a big healthy boy now. But, WOW, I would of had to live with that for the rest of my life,, if he had not of made it, or had some bad physical problems from being born so prematurely. So, baby, it does happen. Those warnings are not without substance. I really thought that it could never happen to me because i always had such an easy time with childbirth, but, smoking finally caught up with me. You need to really search your heart and make some decisions based on the love for your child. What is that unborn child's life worth? I know, it is worth everything to you. You can do this, baby. My thoughts go out to you. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 576 Amount Saved: $120.00 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 9 Mins: 6 Seconds: 21

Hi Babymakes3, I'm new too, and I wanted to share that I remember finding places to hide and smoke all the way through my pregnancy 10 yrs. ago. I was so scared when I had labor pains that I ran outside to smoke inbetween until I couldn't anymore! I felt terribly guilty and out of control, and kept it all inside. Now, that baby is one of my best support buddies:) I'm so happy you found this site! I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone. I hope these days are going well for you... Daily walks makes delivery easier:) MK My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 105 Amount Saved: $24.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 19 Mins: 37 Seconds: 51

John W, those are some very impressive stats. Once again, the life gained is the one that I like the most. And you have NOT smoked over 46,000 cigarettes!!! That is 1840 packs of cigarettes....holy mackinaw!!! See that babymakes3, it all starts with one cigarette. Make the decision to put out that first cigarette & pretty soon you haven't smoked a whole lot of cigarettes. Please let us know that you did that...just put out that first cigarette & like John says, you'll feel the support of people all around the world. We all want you to succeed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 77 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,925 Amount Saved: $632.94 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 6 Mins: 3 Seconds: 7

$300.00 a month wasted!!! Burned up & nothing to show for it except yellow fingers & smelly clothes & hair....oh that's attractive. John, I haven't looked at my stats in a while. It amazes me that I have NOT smoked 1900 cigarettes! I wish I had the $624.72 to blow on something frivilous...or in the bank collecting dust. The stat that I really get off on is, Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 2 Mins: 1 Seconds: 30 I think I will reward myself with an 8 day, 2 minutes, 30 second holiday to somewhere nice :) An Alaskan cruise whale watching...yeah! Like you lost a friend!!??? My Quit Date: 4/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 76 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,900 Amount Saved: $624.72 Look at these stats from Banana who is also in Canada where cigarettes are very expensive. For $300 a month a lot of people would be willing to be your friend, especially a tobacco company. hi babymakes3 i have a young son and i smoked through my pregnancy, with a couple of attempts to stop. while i was still working i also didn't smoke at work , then got home and made up for it! i remember all those feelings of guilt, especially smoking in public, in fact i tried not to go out too much to avoid it. Now I've been off them for nearly two weeks, and the thought that i put my child through that makes me feel awful, but I try to focus on the fact that quitting anytime is a benefit. One of my major reasons for quitting was imagining a couple of years from now when my child is at school being taught how bad smoking is, that he will be scared for me, or that he will defend me in class, as I remember doing for my mum! i don't want him to go through that. I am loving the feeling that I have so much more time for my son now, that I'm not running outside for a ciggie all the time, that he doesn't have to smell it on me. Don't be too hard on yourself, because pregnancy is stressful anyway, and quitting because you feel you have to is probably more difficult than because you want to. I agree with the others, that if you are really having a hard time you could try NRT. I'm on patches now and it makes things a lot easier. I'm finding this site really helpful too, just browsing through reminds me of all the different reasons I have quit, and gets me focused. Good luck with it, and the baby!
