Hang in there. I read that it levels off by about six months. The good part being it does level off! So we know sooner or later we will be able to take it off. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 100 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,500 Amount Saved: $1,055.00 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 4 Mins: 48 Seconds: 37

Congrats to all who are leveling off, maintaining, or losing weight. I go to a group and weigh in once a week, until this week I had a net loss of 1.5 lbs since quitting. BUT this week, I had a HUGE gain. 5.5 lbs. I am starting to stress about this. I know I need to increase activity, but since I quit smoking, I have been SO SO very tired all the time. I even went to my doc, she took blood and everything, and all that came back normal. I am getting aggravated, but not to the point of wanting to smoke again, but with everything else. Suggestions?????? Good for you Dupe! You will see results quickly, not so much on the scale right away, but you will notice things tightening up, definition in your arms and shoulders. That is where I always see results first. And you won't have to worry about looking like Arnold S. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 99 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,475 Amount Saved: $1,044.45 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 4 Mins: 5 Seconds: 29

Lainey, I'm not sure how long you've been weight lifting, but muscle burns more calories than fat so the more lean muscle you have the more efficiently your body burns those extra calories. I haven't ganined or lost during my quit, but I did add weight lifting to my exercise routine this week- hope I have the same results as you! What great timing too- won't you look splendid in your string bikini tomorrow! Hey Aloha, I am still being cautious. I haven't really increased my activity to speak of, walk every morning, do weight lifting three times a week. But am starting to feel a bit more energetic, so maybe the metabolism is perking up. Its not a big loss, but as long as it keeps going down! Hang in there, you are gonna lose it all, with all that work you've been doing! At least we know its going to come off! (Sigh of relief!) :8|: My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 98 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,450 Amount Saved: $1,033.90 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 0 Mins: 21 Seconds: 40

I hit this on the fly this morning Lainey. Ireally am thrilled for you. Have you increased your acitvity level, or are things just leveling off? I have been VERY conscious of increasing the intensity of my activity. I don't just water the garden and pull a few little weeds, I shovel some dirt, I pull and yank at the BIG weeds..it really is a jungle out there....lol I don't just dust the dresser, I shove it aside, and vacuum behind it. I don't just do one load of laundry downstairs, I make sure I run up and down the stairs at least 10 times per day, the heavier the load of laundry the better....I know it will start to melt off as long as I keep moving.....vigorously, with attitude! Now there is one vigorous exercise I know would help (it has in the past), but alas, just not doable right at this moment. Anyway.....hope it keeps going down and down, Lainey! Thanks for sharing that good news....whenever you do, I hope that I will follow right behind. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 80 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,200 Amount Saved: $544.00 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 6 Mins: 45 Seconds: 44

Lainey, Congrats on the loss! Bobbi, Try to keep in mind this is normal. As you remove nicotine from your system, your appetite increases and metabolism slows down often resulting in weight gain. Your metabolism will pick up again in time but until then, keep adding physical activity to your regime. For instance increase the speed and distance of your walks perhaps? Or choosing another activity that is more vigourous like playing a sport or a dance class? Whatever works best for you and hang in there. Just as your fellow members said, weight gain is temporary!
