thanks all, I am hanging in. I am totally weepy? I have been thru this weepy stage in other failed quits. I know that I have to have that "smoking is NOT an option" attitude. I have tortured myself loooonnngggg enough; smoking, not smoking, smoking again...it truly is an endless, vicious cycle if you don't make up your mind to not even have one puff. Otherwise, I will be enslaved for the rest of my life, paying lots of money to make myself sick; physically and mentally with the guilt and worry. I will check in often. Your words of encouragement and advice are so helpful. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 24 Amount Saved: $5.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 52 Seconds: 13

Yes, yes, yes Newme!!! You've taken the first steps toward freedom from this addiction. The first few days are the hardest. I am so glad you are doing what you feel you need to do to not smoke. Don't feel bad about the lozenges. They are much better than smoking. Good strategy...keeping busy. Drink plenty of water and juice. I used to keep something around to chew on..a straw or something like that. I also used to argue with myself a lot....lol. The non-smoking me always won out. The emotions will run high most likely, but remember, the only way to be the real you is to not rely on the cigarettes any more.
My most important reason for quitting is to regain my self confidence and self esteem. I also want to quit so I can feel my emotions again.I am numbed up with nicotine. Being free from this hideous addiction is also one of my important reasons.
Keep these printed out and with you at all times. Every time you feel like smoking, look at them and ask yourself if having a smoke, even a puff, will help you towards those goals. Then ask yourself how you will feel when you don't succumb to the urge. Visualize that, feel that. And then congratulate yourself. You can do this, and we are all here to support you. Dee, Tomorrow, huh? Have you got your strategies ready? What are your reasons for quitting? We will all be here rooting you on, too. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 66 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,640 Amount Saved: $448.80 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 7 Mins: 9 Seconds: 57

Good for you newme. We're all here to support you during this tough time. I know it's very difficult this first day, but I promise it does get so much better. Don't feel bad about using NRT. An NRT is an aide, but you still have to have the desire. We're here if you need us. Just hold on tight, rest, drink water (using a straw helped me), chew gum, or suck on candy. Try to find something to keep your mind distracted. I was at this sight constantly reading those first few days. I've heard others say that walking and watching movies helped them. Hi all, Well, I did not start my quit on 5/20. BUT, I did start yesterday. It has been a full 24 hours since I had a puff of nicotine. I am kind of anxious today. I know that "The easy Way" advises against any NRT, but I started crying after about 5 hours of not having nicotine. I could feel myself taking a fast, hard, dive into depression. I just kept repeating to myself how happy I am to be free. I went and got some lower dose nicotine lozenges; 2 mg. I had 3 yesterday. But, I need to find my way to freedom from this drug. I am still getting teary eyed today; but I am okay. I am going to swim, do some errands and get on with my life without those stupid rolled up weeds. I am very thankful that I found this site. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 24 Amount Saved: $5.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 29 Seconds: 13

hey new me Glad to have you around, there are many people here who will help you do this and that is a very good thing indeed. As far as the addiction goes, we all smoked for different reasons. I used it in order to escape dealing with unpleasant things in my life...If anyting bad happened, which it did on many occasions, I just choked the smoke and drifted off into the nicotine dream...I was and still am a stone cold junkie who could return to the old behavior patterns at any time. Perhaps you are an emotive smoker as well...If so, recognize that fact and then realize how ridiculous it is to believe that sucking down 4,000 chemicals can change anything about the emotion or situation with which you are dealing. It will act as an anesthetic, so you don't have to feel the pain, but it won't change a blessed thing in the external world. Now if you are happy to continue to live your life in a semi-dream like state when confronted by adversity, then continue to smoke...If you want to really get to know who you are without the anesthetic then come on down to quitten town with the rest of us. You will meet yourself along the way and maybe, just maybe you may learn a thing or two about who you really are... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 146 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,380 Amount Saved: $1,022.00 Life Gained: Days: 26 Hrs: 17 Mins: 22 Seconds: 12
