You guys are the greatest!! I really mean that. You are all so right. How stupid to even let such thoughts allowed. I know beyond a doubt the mind trick saying you can have just one.....and thanks to you I heard that when I smelled that cigarette and as bear said....PLAYED WITH THE DEVIL!! My technique was to dismiss them....and I fell a short. All guards are now in tack. I should count my blessings!! I have made it the longest ever. I am determined that I will never smoke again. It was one of my smoothest quits. (not crave free by far....but the most positive quit of all my tries) I have gained very little if not any weight. The only real mood problem was depression for almost 6 weeks...and that seems to be subsiding. I think my problem is my one piece of nicorette gum a day. I cut it in half. One for the morning and one in the late afternoon. Gosh....I need to end that last one piece. It isn't that I'm having some giant crave when I use it. It is more like a little irratable nag. Kiwi...I think this last piece of gum is holding back that total calm you talk about. It keeps you....not on the fence...but not totally over it either. Know what I mean? Phil....my hair is just as soft and sweet!! :p Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 125 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,500 Amount Saved: $558.75 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 12 Mins: 0 Seconds: 18

maybe you ought to reward yourself with a bird guide book if you don't already have one. Or some binoculars. That would keep your hands and mind busy while you're out relaxing. Have a well deserved vacation, Mercy!!! Treat yourself well!! You wouldn't give a cigarette to one of your loved ones who doesn't smoke, would you? -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 65 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,600 Amount Saved: $442.00 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 3 Mins: 58 Seconds: 9

Mercy You are going to have a wonderful time at home. Why would you want to drag cigarettes back into the mix (there is a pun in there, but it is fairly flimsy at best). I am sure that your house and surroundings have been greatly improved now that there is no tobacco residue hanging around. In order for cigarettes to enter your life again, you must invite them. Take them off the RSVP list and hang with the squirrels, they will thank you for it. 125 days is no small achievement. I don't want to see you have to begin again. What a waste, to have made it so far, to have helped so many people by providing so much quality information simply to give into the moment and choke a smoke...Breath deeply my friend, think clearly and relax, you are on the freedom trail...Now just put one little foot in front of the other, don't look left or right, its straight ahead now to the other side... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 152 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,560 Amount Saved: $1,064.00 Life Gained: Days: 27 Hrs: 20 Mins: 16 Seconds: 52

Thanks guys, I feel better. Guess I felt a little lost at the thought of being home on a vacation. But driving back from the store I reminded myself that on my days off from work I don't smoke...so what's the big deal if it's called a vacation. I sort of chuckled inside when I thought of that. Have a great weekend. Hi Mercy, Maybe at your picnic one of the 14 will notice that you aren't smoking, and it will give you a chance for a dialogue to tell them how great you feel, how wonderful the food tastes, how sweet things smell, and all of the other wonderful things (like FREEDOM) you have experienced since your quit. Just maybe you can help someone. If that doesn't happen, just remind yourself of all these wonderful things. You won't smoke, I know it!!! Hey there Mercy, remember that we are all just one step away from smoking. You already know it takes work & committment to stay quit. You have 4 months + quit up your sleeve, you would'nt want to go & ruin it & put yourself through hell all over again would you ? btw, sitting on your patio watching chipmonks and the birds at the feeder..the woods. oh boy, sounds like you're in heavan to me !, I only wish i was there with you. Mercy, there is a time in every quit where a calmness washes over us (if it hasn't done for you already) it is then that we feel at peace with our quits. this moment is truely bliss in itself Be stong. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Mercy, No apologies for wanting help - ever! You've come a long way baby. Getting out with the dog is a good strategy. I used to sit out on my patio with a cup of coffee, a journal and 9,000 cigarettes. I loved starting my morning in the sun being leisurely and inhaling toxic fumes for a good couple hours. I can relate to watching the chipmunks in the woods. Sounds like you'll have to shake it up a bit. Is there something else you can do out there? A jigsaw puzzle, crossword, knitting or needlepoint? What if you watch the birds at another time of day? Are they around in the evening? Instead of smelling the cigarettes - grab one of those smokers and sniff them. That might help! It is really gross, huh? When I first quit everyone said that it would take a year before you go through all your triggers and sort of settle into the quit. It really is true. They come with the seasons, memories and so many little things. The great part though is so does the positive reinforcement. You'll get past this as you've gotten past other things and you'll know what it looks like on the other side. Chin up! This is another step into your new life :) All the best My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1024 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 20,480 Amount Saved: $4,608.00 Life Gained: Days: 78 Hrs: 4 Mins: 40 Seconds: 21

Hi, Mercy Sorry you're having a hard time. I know what you mean, being alone is a triger for me too. Good for you that you put that cigarette back in the pack. You know you didn't really want it & it would never be just the one. 125 days is an awesome quit & you can keep it going, everybody here knows it. Just go back over some of your own posts, all the reseach you did, all the things we know now because of your commitment. You aren't going to smoke, you've come too far and helped so many other people get where they are. I rearranged all my furniture to reduce the triggers & I think it helped, maybe you could try that. You know you have your coping strategies & if you need more, then get them in place. I hope you have a really realxin staycation, Mercy & think how proud you'll be whenit's over & you've beaten a big trigger like that.
