banana... yes, I've noticed the allergy thing. I was out cleaning up my wild garden today and all the dead leaves (it's autumn here) plus pollen and so forth sent me into a complete allergy attack. Coughing and sneezing madly. I suppose it makes sense if your mucous production decreases when quitting -- all that mucous would have trapped allergens too. On the flip slide, I had a bad cold before I quit that I couldn't shake... everyone had this cold but mine did linger longer than most. Really raspy cough, stuffed sinues etc. Withing a few days of quitting, I shook it. Finally! No Shakes that is not a mirage, it's the ship coming to get you! Captain Jack Sparrow at the helm.....oh now he's a cutie ;p....better than the Skipper & Little Buddy LOL Back to the thread, I have noticed a dry throat since I quit but it hasn't really bothered me. What has been bothering me is allergies. I always knew I was allergic to grass, dust & smoke (believe it or not) but today has got to be the worst ever. The maintenance guy at work cut the grass & immediately my eyes started running & my nose tickled like there was a feather on it. I sneezed so much that I thought I was going to be physically sick. I can't take any over-the-counter meds because of my thyroid & usually I can just tough it out. Not today! After work I went to the drug store to pick up a nasal irrigation system...like a Neti Pot....warm saline solution is squirted up one nostril & will drain out the other nostril, cleaning out things like smoke, dust & pollens. Sounds gross & looks just as glamourous LOL I've never used one before & it was....weird! Feeling the liquid in my sinus', of course made me sneeze at first but after a while, it really helped. I can breath again. Gosh I can be long winded some times  I guess my point is that since my quit, my body is over reacting to things that never caused me any grief. Does anyone else have sudden onset of allergies or been through it? Please tell me that it is temporary & that I will overcome this too. Hey everybody! Thanks for your responses. Last night I found out I have strep throat so now I'm on antibiotics. Hopefully that will clear it up quickly. I still have had a show or a rehearsal every day! Not fun... Anyway, that's that. Still smoke-free. I think I see some sort of vessel sailing off in the distance?? What is that? Maybe I'm just delirious from the strep. --Shakes My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 47 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 940 Amount Saved: $423.00 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 22 Mins: 50 Seconds: 29

Yes, I have been ill alot since quitting smoking. They say that cigerettes masked all my illnesses and now they are coming to light. I know it is not much fun. BUT I still do not want to ever smoke again.... I remember years ago, gettin sick alot in the winter time. Infections ect...and I knew it was from smoking. The past 4-5 years I stopped getting sick, whichw as really scarey, I believe my body had adapted to the smoking. My guess is that your body is getting used to not smoking. I had a sore throat for the first week I quit. Sometimes it comes back. I noticed that getting off / stepping down the patch/not having anymore nicotine the same intake made me more prone to sickness also. Were you takign anything to help the quit?
