Quick Question

Our Support Department was asked a question via e-mail today and thought that we would add this Support Group in on the answer. Question: How common is one to develop panic disorder, and can it be prevented? We were able to find statistics on the following: 24,996,503 Canadians and about 2.4 million Americans are affects by panic. Panic disorder most often begins during late adolescence and early adulthood. It is twice as common in women than in men. Panic disorder cannot be prevented; however, there are things you can do to reduce stress and decrease symptoms, including: * It is a great idea to reduce or stop or your consumption of products that contain caffeine, such as coffee, tea, cola and chocolate. * Always ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any over-the-counter medicines or herbal remedies. These over-the counter-medications many contain chemicals that can increase anxiety symptoms. *Exercise daily and eat a healthy, balanced diet. Please feel free to add any questions or concerns :). Hope this helps! Melanie _______________________________ The Panic Center Support Team. Ref: Statcan.com/Medscape (2004) This message was edited by melanie on 4-25-04 @ 10:36 AM
