Hi candycane -
In answer to your question, YES - there comes a time when we are most definitely ready, which is why we're not smoking. Obviously he is not ready, so he's telling you the truth. And if he is smoking, he is most definitely not ready to put them down. And, he has that choice... we all do. Smoking really is a choice, and quitting is also a choice.
It sounds to me like you're as angry at him, as he is at you... and, my friend, remember that this journey is nothing short of the most amazing awakening of our lives... so hold on tight, emotions are going to come up all over the place!
Focus on your quit, that's my advice to you at this point. Own your quit, and protected it with everything you have, and keep the focus on you ~ and your quit.
You're quitting has nothing to do with him quitting or smoking. If he smokes --that is his decision... I know this is short and blunt, but sometimes that is what we need to hear.
Blessings-
