FYI wellbutrin isnt an SSRI, its an MRI and primarily inhibits dopamine
reputake, with some impact on noradrenaline as well.
It is commonly viewed that it enhances sex drive in most people.
I heard a psychiatrist describe it as "pharmaceutical cocaine", not that it
is an addictive or dangerous drug, but it tends to make you feel really
good.
This is perhaps why it isnt the first choice of most drs, as quite a few
of them seem to have an ethical issue with making their patients feel
really good as a means of treating mood disorders, when there are
other more specific drugs like SSRIs that will generally improve mood
without making you feel high.

Just wondering alittle something. So it is definately possible that wellburtrin xl can help lose some weight? I was taking 25 mg's of Paxil and uped the dosage quite a few times cause it wasent helping with my depression. I noticed I gained some weight. Not a dramatic amount but enough for me to notice and get worried. I am very active but very depressed. Can someone give me alittle insight on this drug with the depression and weight factor?
I have heard very good things about this drug I just hope it can work for me..
Hi Butterfly! I haven't posted in a while 'coz i was
feeling soooo horrible on Lexapro!!! I gained 25lbs
& if I wasn't sleeping (which I did ALL the time
since it made me sooo tired), I was eating carbs.
But anyway, I couldn't take it anymore & stopped it
on my own & started taking some Wellbuterin SR
samples I had been given a while ago but was
always afraid to take. I feel soooo GOOD!!!!!! The
withdrawal from the Lex was a *****, but within 10
days I feel ALIVE, I'm NOT anxious & I'm actually
looking forward to the day. I know trying new meds
is REALLy scarey, but I strongly suggest trying this
one & hope it works for you!!! Take care!

Hi.My name is Misty.
I am currently taking Paxil, 25mg. amd Wellbutrin XL, 300mg a day. I started the Wellbutrin XL one month before the Paxil and the only difference I ever felt after starting it was that I felt better! No side effects what so ever!
As far as being paranoid to start new medicines, try to take your mind off of it for about 1 hour after you take it.(If anything bad is going to happen it will probably be in that hour) Watch a movie you really like or listen to some music while you read (you'll be trying to remember what you are reading and trying to listen to the words of the songs at the same time).
When I upped my dosage of the Paxil two weeks ago, I was scared too. I thought for sure I was going to have all kinds of bad side effects. At first I did feel different but realized that it was my over-anxious mind working overtime. I got into the movie that I was watching and everything was fine.

It's just that Wellbutrin is supposed to help with the side effects of the other meds. Also, my motivation level is very low and I'm also depressed. Wellbutrin is supposed to help with that too.
Also I am excercising and I eat pretty good but the Zoloft was just too mean!

Is your anxiety ok now on just the Effexor and Xanax prn? Or is your doctor just trying to replace the Wellbutrin for the Zoloft?
If the answer to the first question is yes, Im wondering why the doctor hasnt advised more on dietary intake program to counteract the weight gain. And in all honesty I have never heard of any SSRI that enhances the sex drive.
Im extremely mediphobic too, especially with prescription medicine. I guess since the only OTC med I take is Aleve for headaches. Given the circumstances that you are mediphobic, if your doctor is using this as a means of a diet pill, something that might cause you more anxiety after you take that first pill, and thus putting yourself in a panicked state. I would look at other means to lose weight. The sex drive will come back, not overnight, from ceasing the Zoloft.

Hi everyone. I am currently taking 112.5mg of Effexor and Xanax as needed (ususally about .50 mg at night). My doctor wants to add Wellbutrin XL at 150mg to counteract the weight gain from Zoloft (which I just went off of) and to enhance my low sex drive.
I have a huge phobia of taking new meds and I make sure to read everything I can about them before I take them. I know everyone is different but does anyone have personal experience with this?
I am worried that I will have a seizure or my heart will beat fast or race. I'm too scared to take it even though I know it could help me.
I appreciate any input.
