Problems Quitting Chantix???

17 years ago 0 25 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
2tone, I stop Chantix after four weeks. I didnt have any side effects, I just wanted to stop any dependence and deal with my quit head-on. For about four days I was edgy and it got better quickly. I think anytime we put our bodies system through something new it has to adjust. Comeing off the medication isnt any different. There are cravings and properly will always be, but I deal with them much easier and they come less and less. 2tone, Day 2 chantix free for me and did the 12 weeks. So far I'm OK. Don't have any spare doses around so I hope I will continue to be. Keep us posted as I will as well. I posted this in another thread, but I'd like to get everyone's opinion on this. Thanks! -- 2tone Here's my Chantix story: I was a 30+ year, 2 pack-a-day smoker. Chantix helped me quit. It has been wonderful. I had a 2 month follow-up with my MD. He told me that when 12 weeks were up, just quit taking them. I think that was last week. Day one off Chantix, I was fine and didn't think about it one bit. Day two, I did have some abnormal thoughts and cravings for a smoke. Thoughts that I haven't had in months. Day three, I woke up with nausea and a flu-like feeling...and still craved a smoke. I put two and two together and took a Chantix. I felt better in a few hours. A coincidence? I'm not sure. I don't think my MD has a clue about Chantix. I think I'm going to taper off over a few weeks. I'll keep all of you posted. Hello Support Team It's me, Genevieve, still struggling to find my way round this website. Where do I go/click on to read my im? Yesterday was my first full day with any cigarettes at all and I feel good about that but still have these strong flashes of sadness at key times when I imagine the reward to a smoke and realise I don't have it there any more. Just like losing a lover. Members, Chantrix has brought upon many questions within The SSC. It is best at this time to refer to your doctor or your pharmacist for further information. We do allow discussions on medications and NRT's, but if the thread becomes more of a "promotional thread" then we will have to stop the discussion. If you have any questions or concerns please contact our moderators in our feedback section found at the bottom of this page. Respectfully, Melanie ______________________________ The SSC Support Team

I think today is my fourth day without Chantix. I completed the 12 weeks. I have felt a bit of a difference, a vulnerable feeling. I don't want to get more Chantix because I don't think it's anything time and keeping busy can't handle. Just a little edgy :| My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/16/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 72 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,446 Amount Saved: $201.6 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 0 Mins: 51 Seconds: 50

Sorry but I have one more thing to say if anyone is still reading but is anyone going to go beyond 12 weeks? I am and my doctor said that's fine. I'll have to check out on line as I just read another post that Pzeizer (sp) has no reports of withdrawal symptoms - that may be true - no reports - but any mind altering pill just have some kind of withdrawal symptoms for some. Or it could be completely tied into behavorial changes - I just don't have a clue, am thinking out loud. I find Chantix to be a weak anti-depressant and I've never taken AD's but I laugh alot more, given the fact I quit cigarettes and I'm still in a good mood, anyone buy that? Anyhow, that's my experience with it. Marie

PS: And my pharamcist doesn't know much about it either - just what he learns from his customers per him :) He's a great pharmacist and I'm grateful he takes time with me and my questions.

Oh I know you never meant to bash it at ALL. It's been the only thing that has worked for me and I for one have never doubted that we are guinea pigs, but I'm ok with that. In fact, we're being studied right now ;) I agree with your doctor and my pharmacist is a wealth of info - knows more than the doctor - word of mouth is amazing - he said he's filling a dramatic increase in Chantix scripts, told me not to double up and also advised a taper. He also said it was a tool and the best thing I could do for myself. Cold turket - it's not for me. The nicotine is out of my system. It's too easy to fall back into old habits. You have to hate nicotine more than anything, asolutely anything, I need to learn this one last time. Great thread.
