2tone, thanks for starting this, I'm going to taper too and I had tummy issues on Monday, after I had also fell off the wagon. For me, they work on them and I plan to utilize them until I get the behavorial downpat if that makes sense. Marie

Audrey...******** I too...experienced some weird things going on with the sinuses. It seems to be getting better though. I live in the Tri-State area of the midwest and our weather is irratic a lot. so ...the weather may play a part...but I really think the Chantix does something to the sinuses. My sense of taste was off...but I am hopeful this will change soon as the sinus clear up completely. I will ask my Dr. Friday about this. He started some of his office people on the Chantix (new no smoking laws in Ohio...plays hell in the work force)Will see if any of them have been experiencing this sinus dilema and keep you all posted. auntdeb ps. I am so happy with the new Non-smoking me...and the ease of how I quit this time that I'm not really worried about the sinus... that is the least of my problems. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 86 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,325 Amount Saved: $408.5 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 21 Mins: 35 Seconds: 20

 Hey Trish M No ...I didn't taper off...I actually started forgetting to take the pill...seemed like later and later each morning or in the evening... so..I just thought well...just stop...if something drastic happens...I can always start again. So I just quit..toward the end of the last week My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 86 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,323 Amount Saved: $408.5 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 21 Mins: 32 Seconds: 28

I agree with what gonnadoit said about Chantix being an aid and not a cure for learned responses. I would think (and this is based on my own experiences with past quits involving a "crutch", even if that "crutch" was just sucking through straws and eating jalapenos) that there would be a HUGE *psychological* relapse when coming off chantix if you've been relying on it and not behavioral changes. A whole "oh no, that's my last chantix" the same as a "oh no, that's my last cigarette". As I've said in other posts, I've been taking advantage of Chantix to go out of my way to invite every trigger I know of because I figure it's never going to get easier than now and I don't want a mountain of "first time as a nonsmoker" experiences staring me in the face when I come off the drug. I'm going to do as many 'first time as a nonsmoker' experiences now while I am on the drug, even if I have to manufacture them. And *that* is what I am thankfully for chantix for. In previous quits (including one that was cold turkey so I was well past actual nicotine withdrawal) I've always avoided triggers or if I had to endure them (like at the bar) I *substituted* behavior, like compulsively cracking and eating pistachios or whatever. Now, on Chantix, I just do things -- as my husband likes to say -- "like a normal person". I like to think I do things like someone who never smoked. Chantix has given me that freedom, in my opinion, and I am taking full advantage of it. It's effect on the brain in terms of reward (dopamine increase) is so minor that I am no longer particularly worried about *physical* side effects when I go off. I'm more just considered -- and hoping to actively counter preemptively -- *behavioral* ones; i.e., I don't want to go off thinking "i don't smoke because I take this pill." I intend to go off thinking -- as I already do -- "I don't smoke because I don't smoke". But, I've four weeks of the 12 to go, so we'll see what my outlook is like then. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 49 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,097 Amount Saved: $245 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 9 Mins: 29 Seconds: 40

One more time... hey Aunt Deb, Since you are the answer depot.. I've noticed a not so great change in taste and smell, just off. Some things are same old same old, but others make me look at my fridge as if it needs to be serviced. Again, just 2 days chantix free. Also practically my entire 12 weeks I had been suffering from a sinus infection...you may remember my *****ing. I've been well for about 2 weeks now and I cancelled my allergy (skin) testing today because I feel like I have a handle on it. I have routinely (every night), and this may gross people out and that is why it is not popular, done nasal irrigation in the shower. Here we are in bloomin' bonanza season and I feel like I am just fine. If you don't want to comment I do appreciate. Just wondering if Chantix related. Hi Aunt Deb: Did you taper off the Chantix towards the end of the 13th week or just stop them at the end of 13 weeks? Thanks...

Thanks Aunt Deb! I'm planning to do a taper - take 1 instead of 2 for a week or 2. I'll keep you updated!
