Problems Quitting Chantix???

17 years ago 0 591 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Jnine, I doubt if your pharmacist will be able to tell you much because of the lack of evidence. I'd say what you get from us here at the SSC will be your best information. Chantix seems to affect some of us different, but from those who have responded to the request for input... Chantix doesn't seem to be causing anyone much problems. I will be looking for your posts on your pharmacist update thanks, auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 85 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,283 Amount Saved: $403.75 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 18 Mins: 51 Seconds: 35

Hi 2Tone I started the Chantix the last week of December with Quit Date...Jan 1 I got sick New Year's Eve with a seemingly...virus (I don't think it was Chantix, because My Husband came down with it too). It only lasted about 24-36 hours. No other sickness to recall except the withdrawal headaches, coughing up phlegm, and general blahs for a week or two. Came off the Chantix at 13 weeks with no ill side effects. My sleep patterns have changed though back to the way they were before the Chantix.(I really enjoyed some needed restful sleep with the Chantix). I had some problems with my sinus's while on the Chantix, this is returning to normal as well. My sense of smell was totally off. However...I am delighted with the results I have had and will confer with my Dr. this Friday that I Highly recommend Chantix to all smokers wishing to stop. :) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 85 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,283 Amount Saved: $403.75 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 18 Mins: 50 Seconds: 39

Hi gang - I didn't really think about Chantix withdrawal until I quit...and started to feel bad. I wish I could say it was all in my head, but the cravings were strong and very real. The only thing that I question was my 'stomach flu' on day three. It could have really been a stomach flu, but soon after I took a Chantix, my symptoms started to go away. Today is my second day back on one Chantix a day, and I feel great. I thought that I would stay with one pill in the AM for a week or two, then taper to one every other day for a few weeks. S-L-O-W-L-Y. If it takes me a month or so, I'm OK with that. I know I have to quit taking it someday, but there are reports 'floating' around other newsgroups of a lot of people having problems stopping. Their doctors don't know what to say because this is new to them as well. On the bright side, there are a lot of people who have had no problem at all. Hey, even if they told me I had to take a little blue pill everyday for the rest of my life to stay away from smoking, I would. -- 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 91 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,566 Amount Saved: $500.5 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 1 Mins: 21 Seconds: 19

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and please continue to do so, as we all can learn from one another. Make sure you are also working with your doctor and pharmacist for more support and knowledge :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.

Thanks for posting this...I am on my last 3 weeks (right Rainie?) anyway I have only been taking one in the morning, and have done so for about 3 weeks now with no effects. I would quit it all together but I will do the full 12 weeks, besides, thats a lot of money laying there in the bottle. I have even gotten to the point where I take the morning pill and dont experience any upset stomach or other symptoms. Not sure I ever did really. Let us know how you are doing, and I will do the same. 2tone, I am on my last pack of chantix, I know the doctor said we can take it longer if needed but mayby I will tapper off with this last pack since you said you are having problems. I work in a Pharmacy I haven't heard of any problems yet but I think I was the first to start taking it out of all our customers. I will ask the Pharmacist tonight and get back to you. I only took the Chantix 8 weeks. Took it for 3 weeks before I never took another puff. No matter what way you stop I believe you have to deal with wanting to smoke or not. It's what addiction is. I was a bit edgy for a day or two, no abnormal thoughts or outrageous craves either....... I started Chantix right after FDA approval, and had not heard of any side effects with discontinued use. I am wondering.....are you, perhaps, reading too much into it because of what you have heard or are expecting? It could just be coincidental that you got a stomach bug after stopping Chantix. s far as craving...I still crave. A lot less than before, but it is still there. Of course, I have been off of Chantix for a long while, only took it 12 weeks and that following some failed quits with patches. Chantix is an aid and cannot cure learned responses. I figure I smoked for 34 years and it may take me a little longer than 200 days to stop wanting one..... Hey!!!!!! I have 200 days! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 200 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,021 Amount Saved: $1600 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 5 Mins: 20 Seconds: 18

2tone - Thanks for posting. I'm thinking of tapering off my Chantix next week and am a little anxious about it. So, keep us updated on how you're doing. P.S. Hope you don't mind being my guinea pig! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/24/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 31 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,098 Amount Saved: $201.5 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 15 Mins: 22 Seconds: 13
