Scotcia one thing I have found at this early stage is that if I am going to have a drink I have something other than what I would normally have. I am a scotch drinker but have not had one since I quit. I grab a beer or a glass of wine instead to avoid the trigger that I know having a scotch would genrate. Also don't have too many, because you might get that "I am bullet proof" syndrome and decide to have a smoke, thinking just one won't hurt me but... you know it will. Have fun and celebrate your quit along with your Mom's birthday. Scotcia, Here are a few tips to help you prepare for the outing: *Bring along some coping strategies with you just in case cravings kick in. (Gum, a toothpick to chew on, hard candies, NRT if you're using them.) *Moderate your drinking. You can do so by reducing the amount you consume or reducing the alcohol content by adding more mix than alcohol in your drinks. *Have an emergency plan: If all the above fail and temptation is posing a problem, have an excuse for heading home early or take ten minutes in the bathroom to regroup. Hope this helps. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

One more thing... I went out for dinner & drinks with my brother and sister-in-law last night. When I walked in & gave my brother a hug hello, the first thing he said was "Wow...you smell really great". My brother noticed this! That reminded me of yet another benefit of being a nonsmoker. I enjoyed a few cocktails & a nice dinner & not one puff on a coffin nail! So, enjoy your mom's birthday party, you'll be smelling nice too! Scotia - It is actually possible to have a drink or two (or three...) and not smoke. I'm not being sarcastic - a month ago I didn't think this was possible, but I've been out drinking several times in the past few weeks and remained a nonsmoker! So go enjoy yourself. Could you "remind" your family & friends that you quit & would appreciate their support on Saturday night (e.g. not offer you a smoke)? Remember, smoking is not an option so there's nothing to think about! Five minutes at a time and deep breaths. Suprise yourself! You are in control now not the cigarettes. You don't have to smoke anymore. You have proven that by your week of being smoke free. Tell everyone how wonderful it feels! scotcia, I'm with Phil 100% (that includes wishing Mum a Happy Birthday from England!) go and enjoy, just choose not to smoke - we did it, you can too. Curry Karaoke? Strange concept. Is that where you stand in front of a microphone and mimic that awful Indian restaurant background music by making a sound like a strangled cat? Good Luck! Penitent d1039
