Stop Smoking Commercials

The ads in the UK are all great - I used to get furiously annoyed when they came on but you know, I think they really contributed to my quit! Now I think 'haha you can't guilt me anymore I'm over it now!' :) A few examples (WARNING, NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH!!) 'Put it out, right out' is the slogan at the end of one that shows the day after a house burnt down and a man lost his entire family from falling asleep with a lit cig. Whiz, bang, fire, and there goes the neighbourhood. The guy is on his knees bawling his eyes out. The fish hook one I mentioned in another post - shows ordinary people doing ordinary things when suddenly a fish hook spears their cheek and drags them outside for a cigarette - the slogan is about 'getting unhooked.' The people at the end are in the Dr's office pulling the hook out and dropping it in the bin. AWESOME message!! An older one shows how smoking clogs arteries with white fatty gunk - they show the cigarette burning and dropping this gunk from the lit end onto people's clothes while they're out in a bar, etc. and they're looking down all disgusted and trying to flick it off them. It sticks, you watch and go 'EWWWWW' am I seriously doing that to myself?!? Awesome x 2! Another shows a guy wearing in a protective suit in a hazardous chemical facility processing things like benzene, and other chemicals also found in cigarette smoke. He goes into a detailed explanation of how the decontamination process would work if he were to get the chemicals on him. The voiceover cuts in to tell him 'do you realise these are some of the gazillion chemicals in cigarette smoke?' The guy looks totally horrified. These are all seriously effective, but then again they're really good at all PSAs here in good ol Blighty. They really make you think! My all time favorite: A little girl asks about a non-smoking section in a restaurant, and compares it to a swimming pool with a no pee section. There's one on the Canadian channels that I really find inspiring. The guy says "I realized this one little cigarette was running my whole life", and "I won't let a little cigarette run my life anymore, and I won't let a tobacco company get rich off of me anymore" How true, how true....there are some really good ones out now where real people talk about their quit....sound familiar - it helps! you are so right about those anti smoking commercials - when I smoked and one came on I would quickly change channels so my wife wouldnt make a comment. Now they come on and I watch them happily. HI everyone... hope you had a great non smoking day. I just saw a stop smoking commerical on TV. It is a new one using a vacumn cleaner to demonstrate that light cigarettes are no good either. I'm sure you will see this new one if you haven't already. I jumped up to send this post on it's way. Remember when those commercials came on and you'd cringe with guilt. Now we can watch them and smile....YEAH!!! WE DON'T SMOKE ANYMORE. A new reason I'm glad I quit!!
