Reading all this, it occurred to me that if smoking affects everything else in our bodies...its a pretty safe bet that it affects our hormones as well. I know for a fact that it supresses the thyroid gland, which affects awolw lot of hormones...so another one chalked up to old Nick. Lots of water will help, but if you're worried about it, keep a monthly journal to see if the symptoms reocurr, there are herbal PMS formulas out there that help with hot flashes etc. I know in Saskatchewan it takes months to get in to a specialist. But one thing, stya quit! Another thing to check is your thyroid via a TSH. I blamed "everything on the quit" but I started taking thyroid 6 months ago and especially the overwhelming fatigue has disappeared. I would love to report the weight gain is gone, but I have quit gaining weight. I suspect I may have had a thyroid problem when I smoked but the constant nicotine stimulation provided a coverup. Oh Pea I feel your pain. Not sure if PMS or just realising what really bothers me but can really identify with the 'want to kill everybody and cry all day long' bit on more than one occasion. Thank goodness it eases, since I'd hate to think I'm really this much of a misanthrope! I've written about it many times, but I use an herbal remedy called Kalms when I feel the 'nudgies' coming on (for lack of a better term). It really does help, may want to look into the herbs and check with your Dr if it would work for you! PS Shame your post got deleted, it's not exactly inspiring to feel negative but if you feel lousy and this board is supposed to help us air our feelings, deleting your feelings sure couldn't help much, eh? Hi ladies, I work in a Health store and if you pop along to them they can offer some great advice. I would say straight away that some Evening Primrose Oil or Starflower would help alongside your Omega 3s, as long as you are not epileptic. This would help most women as it is a hormone balancer, if menopausal as well there are alot more things to try and is best to get advice or see your gps. Oh boy do I ever fit into this conversation. I'm pre-menapausal and was dealing with PMS 2 weeks ago. I was miserable! I was having a rough time with cravings as well. I made it through, but sometimes its worse than others. I'm going to give the Omega-3's a try. What's the GL diet? Pea, It may be that smoking helped mask your symptoms. As you know, when we smoke, our brain released the pleasure chemicals in our brain. If you continue to experience difficulty with PMS, please see your gynocologist. She/he has a wealth of knowledge to share and will also be able to screen you for premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Hope this helps. Be kind to yourself.
