Mine too - but mine had been bad (not as bad) since before I quit and am pretty sure am peri-menopausal anyway. For me, Omega 3 fish oils have helped, an improvement in diet has helped and I have just started on the "GL" diet which is supposed to offer lots of positive benefits for PMS, IBS and pre/menopausal women. I experienced this horrible feeling of depression and negitivity for about a week as well. I think that it was a bad bout with PMS as well, although that was my first since my quit so I am still watching for this month. I hope it gets better, I can't handle this on a monthly basis either. Please let me know if you find anything out. And when I see my doctor next week, I will ask him about it too and let you know if you want. Pea - about 2 weeks ago I had the exact same experience....felt completely drained of energy (beyond fatigued!), I felt like I was going to start crying any minute, and I felt like the world was against me. It lasted for about a week. I'm not sure if it was hormone related, stage of my quit related, or just a bad week. I'll continue to monitor things and let you know! Keep your chin up, Pea! I am 53 and hormones or what, I am 'hot' all the time and the first two months of this year were horrible, but I survived and am still pluggin away. I am sure that quitting has something to do with it, ole nico affects absolutely everything, but with each breath and each day it gets better and better! Hang on to your quit take deep breaths alot and keep checking in here! We are all in this together! Did anyone notice that their hormones got a little weird, like worse PMS in the beginning? Unfortunately I think this may have been going on for a while now, but I am just noticing it since I am becoming so aware of my body. I am 34 and for approximately 10 days out of the month I totally bottom out, have no energy, and want to kill everyone and cry all day long. I have been doing some research to find ways to alleviate this...(I don't want to live like this) But I just wondered if anyone had the same experience after they quit....like their PMS got worse, and if so, did it get better or correct itself with time. Hey Pea There is definitely a relationship...I've quit more than five or six times in my life for more than six months before relapsing...and almost every single time I relapsed it was at the same time of my cycle. For me it's the first ten days of my cycle and it has caused me more problems than just the smoking thing. What I've finally learned is how to ride those hormonal waves like an expert surfer. Body awareness is essential to being able to do that so it's great you have that. For me, I know that I have to let up as much as I can on being 'regimented' for those 10 days (except of course the no-smoking thing has to stay in place and my boss can't seem to see the reasonableness of giving me the time off :p) I've discovered some positives - like my creativity catches on fire during that time. One of western medicine's downfalls is a 'blindness' towards things that have not yet been scientifically understood. I have noticed that the temporary bloating/weight gain I get after quitting smoking is VERY SIMILAR to what I get premenstrually. Our bodies are a virtual orchestra of complex wonderfulness and no doubt there are lots of interactions, etc. that we do not yet understand. Yes, it can get better. Personally, I have done better with learing how to 'ride the wave' than I have with prescribed or natural pharmaceuticals but of course everyone is different. And I agree with Todash...what's with deleting a 'negative' post? I'm only on day 3 and fair warning to all...'black' posts may be just around the corner! Tutti, I was forced into menopause (surgically) over 10 years ago with all of the hot flashes and assorted other symptoms. They do subside. However I notice the night sweats are back with this quit. Maybe you will be lucky and get everything over with at once! Don't you love being a woman at times like this???? Pea, I really think you should listen to Danielle. I had all of those symptoms and BAD long before I quit. I thought it was PMS but, as Danielle pointed out, there is premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). I didn't realize that before but a few months ago, I heard of it for the first time and let me tell you, PMDD is more inline with those horrible feelings than PMS is. I would be so fatigued that it was all I could do to even make it to work and in fact, there were a couple of times I flat out couldn't make it to work. Cramps were horrible and I was very, very emotional. Do a little more studying on PMDD rather than PMS and I'd definitely talk to your doctor about your symptoms. The herbal stuff is great IF you can use them and talk them over with your doctor. Me, I can't walk into a store and just buy an herbal remedy due to health reasons so I only take the advice of my doctor. Better to be safe than sorry in my opinion. I made it through PMDD by the skin of my teeth and now, UGHHH!! the menopause thing has hit. Since my Quit, I've had horrible, horrible hot flashes. I'm diabetic and with these hot flashes, I won't know for sure if my blood sugar has dropped or not so I have about 242 pricks in EVERY FINGER I HAVE!! LOL (I'm exaggerating there.) But I do have to check my blood sugar A LOT more. I'm about to talk that over with my doctor too. I can't just walk in a store and buy something for hot flashes with my medical history. I hope you get better. I know how miserable you feel. I had worse hot flashes than ever those first few weeks. My blood sugar was also all messed up for several weeks, and now that I think about it, I'm guessing that it all got better after about 6 weeks. Yes, I agree though that quitting affects that too, but the hot flashes have subsided again, for now anyway. And the blood sugar fixed itself. I even went to the doctor and had my blood sugar tested, and it was fine. Good luck!
