Hit me last night

LOL, Much as we may hate to admit it, we do become our parents, at least to an extent. Windy you were protecting your quit! I pretty much had the same thing happen last Fri nite, Hubby & I stopped off at the sports bar for a drink & supper, when a load of friends came bouncing in. Hubby had to go to a meeting so he left and suggested I stay, which I did for an hour. But red flags appeared, when I realized this was going to be a party night and I realized I need to avoid certain situations, and this is one of them. I think that may have been a magic moment for me...I am suddenly more aware than ever before of my quit and what I am willing to do to keep it. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 28 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 724 Amount Saved: $295.4 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 11 Mins: 59 Seconds: 52

Windy, you'd better trim those toenails before they get long and yellow!! :gasp: Don't make me come in there now. ;p That is definitely a MOM thing to say, right? Oh Gonna - Please tell me it isn't true! My Dad is a grumpy old man with big thick yellow toenails (but a pretty funny sense of humour)...Is that where I'm headed??? Ahhhhhh................. We have become our parents! :8o: Aaaarrrgggggggg! How did that happen? Come on, folks......I have a very large front porch with lots of rockers (everyone says it reminds them of Cracker Barrell) Bring your knitting or you can play checkers, etc....and we'll sip on some ice tea and talk about 'the good ole days'! Time to trade in the stiletto's for some Dr. Scholls!Heeheehe My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 205 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,288 Amount Saved: $1640 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 18 Mins: 54 Seconds: 27

Windy, Smoking used to be an escape mechanism for me too! An uncomfortable situation, a boring situation...it didn't take much. Good for you for recognizing what was happening. You didn't cave. You probably wouldn't have, but the temptation was there. Right now I prefer quieter times. Sometimes dart night can be a bit overwhelming for me. I actually had two Friday nights in the past 2 months that I didn't go. From a non smoking point of view, I just didn't feel up to it. We learn as we go. Keep that great quit going strong, girl! Windy, It sounds like you learned a lot from this experience. Instead of joining the smokers why don't you focus on joining non-smokers. Replace the old habit with a new one. Thanks for sharing. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

Windy, Thanks for sharing your story and congratulations on not caving to the craving. I can relate to your situation as I frequently used smokes to get away from "uncomfortable" situations. You are an inspiration and a constant reminder that we can never let our guard down! For the most part, cravings are getting milder and farther in between but last night I got hit by a big one. I went to a dance where most of the people were having a romping good time. It was rowdy and loud with lots of intoxicated people. I was sober, I didn't know very many people and I felt out of place. My friend asked if I was smoking as she was going out for a butt. I told her I wasn't smoking and she went out by herself BUT I really wanted to go out. I think I liked the part about smoking where I could escape a situation where I felt out of place, spend sometime chatting with a "fellow smoker", and have some quiet time. This quit has been getting stronger each day....but I realize that I really need to get ready for the busy social activities of the summer. Cigarettes will be far too accessible at times when I have the urge. In all honesty, I don't think that I was really a party girl. I think that I made myself "think" that I enjoyed loud, boisterous parties by drinking and smoking cigarettes. Now that I'm older, I need a new escape mechanism!
