Good Point Bear! We often chat about smoking & cancer, but heart disease is a major consequence as well. Not to mention how smoking makes so many other things worse - diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. Geez, it's so freakin evil! Anyway, another smoke-free weekend is upon us. Hope everyone has a great one! Good Morning Everybody And A Happy Easter to all.I just checked the old thermometer it,s -10 again. This is supposed to be SPRING ??? I think even Jesus would be a little ticked at this nonsense. After I turned off the computer last night it suddenly dawned on me not only is this a great site for support but its also a great site as a reminder of the consequences of smoking..I maybe wrong here but if memory ??? serves me correctly smoking is the number 1 contributer of heart disease in North America.Well enough preaching for today hell I,m starting to sound like Billy Graham !!! and you know thats not my style ;p :p :eg: My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 293 Amount Saved: $160 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 20 Mins: 32 Seconds: 32

Hey Teddy Bear! Look at you mister! 15 days smoke free! Do you amaze yourself with your strength and determination? Regardless of your motiviation for quitting, make it your personal challenge to stay quit. Just because it's good for you! Then share your wisdom and strength with the rest of us, especially new people. You have so much to give back. Hey Maggie Not to worry..I lost my dad to cancer when I was 14 plus many aunts and uncles all of whom were smokers my mom passed away 10 years ago also from cancer. So as you can see I have a better than average chance of going the same way.Now you,ld think I would have the brains to have ducked smoking?? but oh no I had to try it.This is another good reason for giving it up because if you want to die a very painfull death this is the way to go . Believe me I have witnessed it first hand.I don,t want to be morbid thats just the way it is.. Woops..missed that post about family being scattered..did not mean to hurt any feelings. I just hope big time that you can keep up your quit. The 2nd biggest motivator for me was considering how I wanted to die. Imagine yourself with as much breath power as breathing through a straw. Better yet, get a drinking straw, and try breathing through it. That's not the way I want to go..not struggling for every breath. I just hope that I've not condemned myself to die like my Dad (Esophagus cancer ..along with all his brothers) or my mom..colon cancer. I'm a bird person myself. My heart sings when I hear a kildeer, or a red-wing..for me, the first true signs of spring. I look forward to as many springs as I can cherish. Keep well, and keep the quit. You will never regret it. Keep it up Bear, I'm a neighbour (Oakville), and I smoked for 40 years. Stupidly taught myself to smoke when I was 15. You smell better, look better, and if you have any grandchildren, they'll notice the change. That was my big reason. I don't know whether you have any family, but that's my motivation. "maybe there,s another good reason I,ve overlooked" My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 184 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,546 Amount Saved: $1518 Life Gained: Days: 24 Hrs: 4 Mins: 20 Seconds: 45

Hi Harrell Quitting cold turkey is a tough way to go but you appear to be doing well and I salute you .I quit cold turkey when I was 31 and lasted for 5 years.Unfortunatly a messy divorce sent me back to the weed again ?? My family is spread all over Canada and where not big communicators plus all my friends are smokers one of them has had 4 heart attachs and still continues to smoke ??? My support comes from this site if I had,nt have found it I,d still be smoking. When I first started here I still had doubts about quiting even after receiving 10 weeks of free patches. So like you I go at it one day at a time and find it becomes a little easier each day thanks to the support I get here..

Well sir, I also am 68 and quit last November 30. Same as you I smoked about 50 years. Quitting cold turkey was really rough the first few weeks. I even went to Myanmar (Burma) during my quit period and that was rough, very rough. I had been there before and what I liked a lot about the country was one could smoke almost everwhere. Before I went I was very doubtful of making it w/o smoking, but I did, mainly by just taking quitting one day at a time. Read a lot and make as many commitments as you can with your family and friends. Good luck, you can do it Harrell - Free and Healing for Four Months, Five Days and 24 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 10 Days and 22 Hours, by avoiding the use of 3150 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $475.02.
