Sorry to be coming into this a little late -- what an amazing couple of days you all have had together! Porky, you sound like a real winner -- a very strong and determined lady. (I just can't seem to get this recording of "That's All, Folks!" out of my head...) The nicotine should be about gone from your body now, so from here on in, you're battle old habits more than physical addictions. I've found that the best way to break old habits is to create new ones -- even if they involve only 15 minutes of this or that. You can do this -- imagine how exciting it is to recreate your whole life!! I'm also curious how your talk with the doctor went, and how you're doing on the other meds. Hope you're coming off of them easily... peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 113 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,679 Amount Saved: $621.5 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 17 Mins: 57 Seconds: 11

Hello Porky. I just walked out of a meeting - and would have smoked if I could have. Not pre meditated - but to be honest i had really forgotten that i had quit smoking. Fortunately i didnt have any on me and by the time I had realised i was a non smoker i hadnt bought any. but i WAS majorly disappointed, lol. :) So it happens. Dont be so hard on yourself. Welcome to the board. I dont know how much you smoked or for how long - but to be honest I simply COULDNT smoke ONE cigarette. I cant do that. Its funny how we continue to smoke no matter what. I remember Allen Carr saying that there were more cigarette butts outside the Royal Marsden (a hospital that i believe dealt with lung Cancer) than anywhere else. Its that bury your head in the sand mentality. I was told to quit smoking - I had treatment for cervical cancer. This dragged on from 2002 - Jan 07. Only now that i have got the all clear from hospital can I genuinely say that I dont want to smoke anymore - before it was just too hard i was too stressed. Would do it later. Welcome anyway x

Hi Porky!~ You can do it and you will recieve lots of support here. I do think you need to talk with your Dr. about all of this. You did not answer whether you are using an NRT or prescription. Talk to your Dr. about Chantix. If you can take it, you should try. (((hugs))) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 164 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,244 Amount Saved: $1312 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 11 Mins: 2 Seconds: 10

Hey there. I went through reconstruction surgery 3 years ago. The surgeon told me prior to the op that I had to give up cigs and lose 2 stone. I was unable to take a nicotine replacement because the nicotine would interfere with the healing process. Well to cut a long story short...I did it. For 6 months before and 2 after the op. Then I smoked. My hubbie smoked and they were too handy. Oh how I wish I had not smoked!!!! After about 3 months of non smoking I was fine. No real craves and just the occasional urge. Now I am back to the withdrawal. This is my 20th day and its not so bad. Getting there. Hubbie is quitting too. Its an enormous help. However if he does go back on them I will fight on. I am cold turkey again but reading Alan Carr's book. Also staying in the present and thinking one day at a time. I send you best wishes and loads of love. I know how it feels. :gasp: My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/31/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 584 Amount Saved: 142.5 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 12 Mins: 59 Seconds: 50

Hey Porky, I kept a bag of suckers and plenty of gum in the car when I started. They really helped with the "hand to mouth" habit. Still chew lots of gum. The car was probably the toughest for me, get the smokes out of the car. The patches can work for you. Check with your doctor and pharmacist regarding information on any product you choose. They can be of great assistance to you with side effects and dosages. Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
