Going Off Zyban/Wellbutrin - What happens?

17 years ago 0 1543 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Sorry, I wish I could help you. I was one of the ones who could not take it. I didn't feel well on it at all. But I would assume like all NRTs, once you wean off you will have some craves. But... i would think they would not be like going cold turkey. You have learned how to do things without cigarettes...and you have not putting nicotine into your system. You have added a chemical to your system that makes the brain not want the nicotine. Hope someone that has weaned off zyban can help. I am curious myself. I would like to ask.... what happens when you wean off the nicorette. Wow....46 smoke free days. I agree with Bullseye, no cravings after quitting zyban. As for the nicorettes, they cost a lot and I am a tight wad. Once I ran out I wouldn't buy anymore. I did buy some Orbits sugar free gum. It works just as well. Can anyone tell me what it's like once you go off the pills and can you share how long you were on Zyban/Wellbutrin? I appreciate any information. Thanks everyone for replying. I have no intention of going off them anytime soon but am very curious what happens afterwards. I can see how people forget to take the pills - especially the evening dose. I'm always forgetting it. I think I was taking Zyban for more than a month before I finally quit, and I stopped taking it when the second 30 days ran out. I don't think I was in sync with the recommended timelines, but it worked just fine for me; I was glad to be off of it. I have a friend who is on Chantix, and she tells me that she has to take it for 4 months. Me, I don't have that kind of patience. Best to you -- peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 126 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,329 Amount Saved: $693 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 2 Mins: 47 Seconds: 36

Of course, you should check with your doctor about it Terri My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/28/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 157 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,363 Amount Saved: $558.92 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 18 Mins: 10 Seconds: 20

I started Wellbutrin mid-Sept, quit smoking the 28th of Sept. OVer the Christmas Holidays I forgot to take it every day, so I kind of weened myself off, I quit all together the middle of Jan. No problems at all. I told myself if I started to crave, I would go back on again. I went on wellbutrin about a month after my quit and have been on it since. For 1st month of my quit I went into a depressive bout, which wellbutrin helped me get out of. After further research about my families history, depression has run through it for at least the last two generations. As far as going off it, I may never be able to not take some type off depression medication whether wellbutrin or some other type. Like said in the post above, check with your doctor before going off of any medication. Especially since this medication does fight depression and smoking masks depression. You may feel fine now and a couple of weeks being off of it but something to watch once the medicine is completely out of your system. Best of luck and keep the quit. Always continue on with directions and ask your doctor about medication dosages and side effects. The members can help with experience :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
