Hi After reading this post I printed it out and put it on my computer and my frig. I also use cream savers (orange and carmel chocolate). They last a long time and really help. My two worst times are also in the morning and after means. Thanks for the great post!

5: On the telephone.... Doodling on a notepad or talking while standing or walking. PERFECT! I've been looking for an answer to this one. Here's one 8: Driving... Sing along to your favorite CD My terrible habit was smoking while driving while talking on the phone! Other drivers, WATCH OUT! Thank god I quit right?

Hi Anna! Yes, I use hard candy when I am finished eating as well to help. It seems like the hardest craves to get past are the first cigarette in the morning and the cigarette after a meal. I like the cream savers, those are really good and last for awhile. Hi angelcapp! I am happy that you could use the coping tips. I was hoping they would go to good use, and on here I couldn't see it not. Yep! Gotta love cream savers!! My favorite would have to be strawberries & cream (of course! ~LOL) I also like Bananas & Cream! They are great coping items! Keep on keepin' on!!! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hello everyone! I hope this finds you all doing well! I was going through some things of mine and I ran across some helpful hints on how to cope with cravings! I hope that this helps you as much as it helps me. I actually printed it out and put it up on my cubical at work as well as by the door in my house where I use to go outside and smoke. I hope you find as much strength and coping mechanisms from it that I have.
If you smoke when you do this..... Try doing this instead! 1: With your morning coffee.... Drinking hot chocolate, tea or orange juice. 2: After a meal.... Leaving the table and doing something else or brushing your teeth. 3: After a stressful situation.... Taking a walk or a 5 minute break. 4: Before bed.... Reading or deep breathing. 5: On the telephone.... Doodling on a notepad or talking while standing or walking. 6: At parties.... Avoiding alcohol, and munch on healthy snacks. 7: Watching TV.... Watching TV while holding something else, like a stress ball, or sitting in a different chair. Reducing the Urge to Smoke: Urges to smoke only last for a few seconds to a few minutes. Believe it or not, the urge to smoke will pass whether you smoke or not. When an urge strikes, try the following: The "Three-Second Breathing" Exercise. Nothing relaxes you more quickly than taking a deep breath. Inhale deeply through pursed lips. Hold your breath for 3 seconds. Then slowly exhale through your mouth.
I hope this helps with newbie's and veterans. Keep the faith - Keep on keeping on! Hi Stacey!! Thank you so much for the nice reply! I do try to help because I know the feelings that so many are having, and they are so hard to deal with. If I can help one person stay smoke-free, it was worth my time posting! ;) Stay Strong! ~PEACE~ Shortcake My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 732 Amount Saved: $162 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 22 Mins: 43 Seconds: 17

Janeathena - Glad to help!! The driving one was a problem for me too. I do sing along with the radio! Sometimes when the cravings get really bad I sing as loud as I possibly can! I can imagine what the people around me think when the see me yelling to myself in the car alone! LOL Stay Strong! ~PEACE~ Shortcake My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 733 Amount Saved: $162 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 22 Mins: 45 Seconds: 57

Great post! I have the new habit of having a peppermint after meals. Now I crave my mints and carry a stash with me everywhere I go. I also "stole" a handfull of them at a resturaunt last weekend! Oh well, at least I can replace my teeth!
