Back to Work and nervous

Nico, Keep trying, we all have failures, its how you pick yourself up and get back on the horse that counts! You can do this. Ask your doc about Chantix. I am on it right now and it seems to be doing me good. My quit date is 3/1/07 and I started Chantix last Thursday. I have already cut down from 20-25 cigs a day to less than 10. You are allowed to smoke on the first week you are on the pills. After the first week you are supposed to quit. I can feel the difference. I don't want to smoke as much. I still have some cravings but they seems to be a bit easier to get over. Ask your doc and good luck getting back on the horse!

wow, i had the same problem last week lol lol, i was so worry to go back to work that i almost didnt!! im not going to lie to you but the first day was very very hard but ONLY the first day.after that it is so much easier when you work than if you stay at home.(time goes by faster, you talk to people and so on...). i did 2 things: 1) i took tons of food with me (include candy gum etc..) 2)first thing in the morning i spoke with EVERY one at work, i told them that i stoped smoking and that i may become rude or angry and that it is not me who is talking.(not to take it personal... its the cravings). i also asked them to try as much as they can not to put stress on me and better off not to talk to me unless its urgent. you know what? it worked!! by the second day i knew how much and what kind of food to bring, by the third day it was already normal ( you will find that working as a non smoker is a MILION times better then when we use to work and smoke. YOU WILL SEE!!!! all in all , its not as bad as its seems. nico, all these feelings that you have are normal, we all had them. dont worry, it gets better every day!! you know its like when "they" take the cigarettes away, we become like little babies...... we cant talk we cant walk we cant function.. all we do is cry all day long. and then slowly slowly we learn how to do things without this poison!! we take baby steps, one step at a time. so tomorrow you are taking another baby step. enjoy that step! and like i said on my other post, its not as bad as it looks, trust me on that!! i went thru the same same same thing last monday. you will fell so GOOD after you come home from work. Well, I had the whole last week off and I head back to work tomorrow and I'm a little concerned about it. I'm 9 days quit and I mostly smoked on the job in my work vehicle. I got rid of all traces of smoking in my vehicle the last day that I worked. I've been feeling pretty crappy the last couple of days. I know it's my body adjusting to being clean, but it still doesn't feel good. I have a doctors appointment on Friday to talk to her about chantix. I would have done that before quitting if I had known anything about it. I have my nicotine inhalers to take the edge off, but I still am pretty nervous about getting back into my weekly routing. I've read everything on the SSC system and will have all my tools with me. I have a terrible track record of failed quits. I know all the things I need to do, I just had to put in writing my fears. I'm really feeling more strongly about wanting to stay quit than ever before. I just have to get past the junkie talk that I know is going to hit me this week. I'm trying to stay positive, but it's hard. Thanks for reading my ramblings. Have a great smoke free day! Well, I blew it. I smoked 4 yesterday. I couldn't think and I couldn't focus and that is dangerous for me. I am sometimes in situations that are potentially dangerous and I can't afford to screw up. I have also been depressed despite my anti-depressants and my anxiety was overwhelming despite the fact I am being treated for that as well. My meds for sure aren't right. I guess it's back to my Drs. to find out what can be done to adjust for the quitting. I've quit before a number of times and relapsed for many so called "reasons". This time the withdrawal is bringing on a relapse of my depression and panic disorders. I wont go through that again. I have been taking the same meds for a very long time. Maybe they just aren't doing the job anymore. Whatever it is, I have to get to the bottom of it to get past this addiction. I'm sorry if this is a downer for some reading this, but I'm back to square one again. I have not felt like myself for sometime. I guess I should have gotten checked out by my Dr. BEFORE my quit. At any rate, I haven't given up on kicking this thing. I just have to be smarter about it. You all keep up doing what your doing. I'll be back again and hopfully very soon. Nico

Thanks angelcapp for the encouragement. I made the Dr. appointment specifically to ask about Chantix. I also need to see if my other meds are out of wack. I have clinical depression which is a chemical imbalance in the brain. The nicotine has obviously been a self medicating thing. It would seem I'm one of those people that needs support from more than just a forum. I live very close to the Mayo Clinic. If I have to enter a program there, I will. Some people don't understand that there can be more at work than just the addiction. We are all different. Thanks for not going off on me. That is never helpful. Good luck with your quit. I'll be back. Just have to regroup. Dear Nico... Please dont feel guilty for this. Your inner balance is in the most important thing at the moment. Your experience of interrupting the quit is as important as the quitting. It leads you to a major comprehension of your self. Many of us had/have the same feeling as yours and some reacted exactly the way as you did. No one has the right to blame you, not even you yourself. Take your time and stay with us. Take care :) Mitri My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 118 Amount Saved: $23 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 5 Mins: 56 Seconds: 5

Nico, I just read your post again and actually, it does sound like you've been taking the right meds. Don't trick your mind into thinking they're not working now. The fact that you've quit smoking is a huge change in lifestyle with a lot of physical and phsycological withdrawals to go through. That alone is enough to trigger your depression/panic. You may just need an increase of the same medications you've been taking. I know that I've had the tightness through my chest, some panic, and a burning sensation through my chest since I quit smoking. That has come back since my quit so there IS a link there. Smoking isn't the answer to the panic or depression and you know that. A chat with your doctor and some additional help is what you need. What I have noticed is my anxiety is worse IF I drink caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant and triggers anxiety while alcohol is a depressant. You should steer clear of both of those until your quit is solid again. I can't drink alcohol, never liked it. But I love my coffee and diet coke but right now, I'm staying away from it. Anxiety/panic is no damn fun. Let me know how you're doing, okay? And don't beat yourself up for smoking. You have quite a few days there where you didn't smoke and look at all those cigarettes you did NOT smoke. This will all work out and we're all right here to support you.
