I took off my patch!

Todash, I like your term, "Step Down Madness." At first I really wanted to use NRT's but found out I couldn't. Now, I'm so glad I couldn't use them. I was reading more posts this morning and saw that folks were having withdrawals each time they went to a patch weaker in strength as the weeks went by. I said to my husband, "Man, I'm so glad I had to go Cold Turkey because NRT's sound like a very slow, miserable process of withdrawing." I still believe a person should do whatever it takes to quit, even if they choose to use NRT's or feel they need them. I'm just glad I wasn't able to use them. One "Hell Week" was enough for me. Phew!! Good Luck To Everyone....Whatever It Takes!! DJ, Remember who you're leaning on. Okay? Remember that arsenal you have there and who is your main weapon. You know who's using those cravings, trying to tempt you into destroying your body and breaking your faith. Chew him out!! Get mad at him!! Tell him to back off in Christ's name. I thought about that line yesterday!!! I know which one you're talking about too. ha ha ha ha Hey, it works though. In two ways actually. One, is to stop that temptation but two, you're venting. Sort of like taking the pressure off of that pressure cooker before it SPLODES!! DJ, I'm two months in and haven't commented on this yet anywhere, so now's a good a time as any... If by any chance you can go cold turkey, DO IT! I used the patch for six weeks, went through 'step down madness' thrice and then a final stellar bamboozling when I stopped entirely. It felt like I quit and felt withdrawal four times. Not pretty. Quite painful really. What's getting me through the Grumpies version 4 is a wonderful herbal remedy called Kalms. Try it if you're feeling bonkers and like that sort of thing, I highly recommend it! Anyroo, get through it without an NRT if you can, do what you must, stay strong and read/post as often as you need to! I've been reading this thread and was a little hesitant to post because so many people had success going cold turkey. However, there are afew "warm chickens" out there and I am one of them. The worst part of the patch was week 1 (despite the fact that I was on the patch, it was way less nicotine than I had smoked) After that, the patch really helped me to deal with my emotional addictions while helping me ease through the physical part. Stepping down caused only mild discomfort. Sometimes I wished that I was a strong cold turkey or a gentle, calm quitter........but when it comes right down to it, all that really matters is that we find the method that works for us. Good luck all! Good idea, DJ - if the patch is hurting, get rid of it!! Don't be frightened of quitting cold turkey - lots of people here have quit this way, too! On the other hand, if you think you could do with a hand from the doctor, go get some help. My point is, this: do whatever you need to protect your quit. Good luck!
