Hey come on tryagain! Youve done an extraordinary job staying away for 13 days. Just remember this: Cigarettes do not give you any relief, they devour you. Hang on tight! Im with you. mitri

I think I mentioned before, TryAgain, that you might be suffering from anxiety (with or without depression). And I think you were taking Wellbutrin/Zyban which increases anxiety. You really might want to look into switching to another med that will help ease your anxiety. I don't know if this is a well known fact, but a psychiatrist who deals with these drugs every day told me that. Hope this helps and hope you are feeling better soon. How about trying a warm bath or even treating yourself to a massage as a reward for hanging in there even through these down times? Also, try watching a funny movie or comedian on TV or read a funny book (look in the humor section at the bookstore). Laughter will make you feel better automatically and you may forget some of your stresses, even temporarily. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 138 Amount Saved: $44.88 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 29 Seconds: 23

Could you be using too much gum? Nicotine IS a stimulant. I use lozenges but find if I use too many of them, I get really really REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY tense! lol. Also, take exercise. Hang in there. I often find myself tense...muscles tight and sore. Especially early on (I also felt physically exhausted from fighting the craves). Try some yoga to help fight the craves...there are some you can even do from your desk. This will get better as your quit matures. Hang in there! Hi tryagain, I have felt like you. I can remember being where you are (mentally) almost exactly a year ago. I just wanted to share a thought that kept me going during that time-the point that you are now at in your quit (the worst time I ever felt was around 13 days too). My boyfriend and I quit together, and whenever I was feeling anxious, craving ect, he would say something to the effect of "Doesn't the fact that it is so painful/hard to quit make you feel strong? We know we are conquering something pretty immense (addiction) because of the pain of it all....we are doing a pretty good job making it past (blank #) days, so lets keep going." Hearing him say that always made me feel tougher, like it may be hard...but my mind is tougher than any cravings. I don't know if that will mean anything to you, but it made me feel like the pain in its way was beautiful because it meant I was doing something good for myself. If you think about it, you are saving your life tryagain and you will feel so happy that you did (After a month you will start to feel pretty good/proud). I was you last year...not depressed but miserable from fighting, I remember it so clearly. What I did back then was not worrying about anything that I didn't have to worry about, pampered myself at every opportunity, and went running whenever I could...my cravings definitely subsided when I was exhausted and had those endorphins running through me! My extreme cravings subsided after a month, and then after that I would just get the occasional urge (usually I would post on here when I had a bad one) and by 4 months I felt secure in my quit. Now a year later I see people smoking and I think of it as something I used to do, not something I want to do. It's amazing what time does, the pain/cravings will never be what they are right now (so keep going-you don't want to have to redo day 13 again-it only gets better from here). You can do it, and we are all here for you when you need it :-)! I don't have depression but tension! Every muscle tensed, coiled up like a tightened spring. Tense to the point of muscle soreness. No wonder I'm tired all the time! It's a constant fight to keep the cravings at bay. It's like keeping the roof up by holding it in place. Keeping the walls apart by physically keeping them from sliding into one another. It never lets up not for a minute. Not a second. If I'm awake, I want a cigarette. If I'm awake, I'm fighting a craving. Every second, without a break, without a let up. This has to end. These cravings have got to start subsiding pretty soon or I do not know what I will do. I'm not taking any meds except NRT gum. I have had good success with acupuncture for deep relaxation, but I want to get further along in my quit before I start that. I know it doesn't work if started too soon. This is just maddening. There isn't any danger of my smoking though. I know I can't. Those days are over. This really really really works. Please just give it a shot right now..... How to Breathe. Place your tongue on the roof of your mouth and breathe in through your nose. Keep breathing in until your lower stomach starts to rise. Then put your lips together as if you are blowing up a balloon. Blow all the air out slowly in a controlled manner until it is all gone. The breathing out should take almost twice as long as the breathe in. Say in my mind Go Away . When you have practiced this and understand what to do you will start to feel a change in your body, It is important that you take notice of this, The drop of the shoulders, The loosening of the face and any other feelings you have. When you have mastered this, each time you take a deep breathe you say a word. It can be any word, such as RELAX, CALM, QUIET or any word that you want. The word should be repeated over and over again in your mind as you breathe out. Very shortly all you will have to do is say the word and your body and mind will instantly return to that calm state, you can do this anywhere and at any time and no one will even know you are doing anything differently. -----MY WORD IS, GO AWAY The control of breathing is important and the faster you breath the more adrenalin is pumped, the more oxygen is taken from the brain and the more anxiety is felt. Control that breathing and you will release the brains own feel good chemicals called endorphins. When you have practiced you will be able to change your mood whenever you want.
