Hi Maggie, Well done! When my Mom quit (she worked in a smokey bar hanging coats to send us to school), she would always have a sore throat the next day (she only worked weekends). I want to avoid second-hand smoke, but more-so because I may be tempted to ask for a cigarette! Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials! I think it was much less of a stressor than you thought it would be b/c you took it slow. You accepted the invite when you felt you were strong enough in your quit. You were in control. Proud of you. And you know what? It wasn't bad at all. My soon to be in-laws (my daughter-their son) are smokers and I've dodged the invites over the last 3 months. Finally accepted an invitation for last night. There were six people smoking inside (about 14 people total were there). I noticed the smoke, but I didn't want it. It didn't smell yucky, it didn't smell good either. Weird. I noticed my throat is sore this a.m. though. (Second hand smoke DOES have its drawbacks after all..though you couldn't have told me that three months ago. ) Not suggesting that any new quitters expose themselves if they don't have to, (to second hand smoke that is) LOL. I just wanted to relate that I'm releived that it was much less of a stressor than I thought it would be. N.O.P.E.
