Hay I had them Shingles and my Doc did think it was related to the stress of stoping smoking. Combined with the lose of a friend and it does happen to us older people more. I got meds and mine was mostly itchy not painful. After you have chickenpox (usually as a child), the virus that causes it stays in your body in certain nerve cells. Most of the time your immune system keeps the chickenpox virus in these cells. As you get older, or if your immune system gets weak, the chickenpox virus may escape from the nerve cells and cause shingles. Interesting, try having some foods that are higher in protein rather than carbohydrates. The protein will stay with you a lot longer. Another thing I found that helped was frozen grapes. Eating a couple of those takes a bit of time and helps get the blood sugar back up. I'm not in menopause but i sure know about eating every 2 hours when i first quit smoking....and when i first quit pms was every 20 min i think...lol My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 173 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,859 Amount Saved: $678.16 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 9 Mins: 13 Seconds: 29

I know that shingles has something to do with the chicken pox virus... but I'm not really sure how they're connected. I think if you've ever had chicken pox, then you can get shingles... that's the way I understand it at least... but then, it has to be contagious somehow because I just refuse to believe that all of us "coincidentally" got shingles at the same time! But that's about all I know. Crave the Quit! Don't know about menopause since I'm only 30, but I can relate to the shingles... my niece, grandmother, mother, grandfather and I all got shingles when my niece came to visit! We think she brought it with her (I assume it's contagious?) and we all got it. My grandmother got it second and is STILL dealing with it (my niece was here over Christmas), but the rest of us got over it. But anyway, I can totally relate to that... I hope not to be able to relate to the menopause thing for many, many, many, many, many more years! :p Crave the Quit! Hi, not sure if I am in the menpause but def. test positive for beinr in the pre menopausal state. I was like you for ages - affected by low blood sugar levels but didn't realise that's what it was. I got some glucose sweets and would have one of those as soon as I woke up in the morning. Then I read (here somewhere I think) that apples help so I have one of those with whatever other breakfast I have. Am trying to eat generally better anway - so I have porridge for brekkie (supposed to be good at keeping sugar levels up) and eat more fruit and veg. And I always recommend omega 3 fish oils for anybody even APPROCAHING a menopause as they have just made such a difference to me. Not sure if it's any of the above or just a time thing, but I'm feeling much better. Not getting that spaced out way I was getting before. Sorry to hear about the shingles though. My mum had those and it's not fun. I wish you a speedy recovery and while dealing with that, would say you have enough on your plate to not worry to much about what goes down your neck! Take care. Interesting, Keep working with your doctor. He/she is the best authority to find the root cause of your drop in blood sugar. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team
