Dunedad.. You can do this! There is so much support here when you are up, down and all around. This site helped me when I was sinking and quite quickly. I've kept my quit because there are some people that I consider very special to me and have helped me. Just reach out and we all will be here for you! Hugs and looking forward to helping you on your journey! Kevin, great to have you here and that you have decided to start your new smoke free life soon. Quitting will be the best thing you can do for yourself and your health. Bronchitis and sinus infections that were at least 4 times a year for me are now non-existent. We're happy to help you along with you journey. Let us know how you are doing and don't forget to keep your list of reasons why you smoke close at hand along with your coping mechanisms (mine was and still is Red Hots cinnamon candy). WELCOME! Hi Kevin - glad to hear this *GRINS* and more *GRINS*! You may find that this quit is relatively easy. We're SO happy for you! Congrats on making it through day one! Stick with the water and I am glad the breathing has really helped. It helps me bigtime. Kevin, your post just made me laugh (especially cheech & chong) - who smoked A LOT!!!! Glad you're waking up a winner. That's the goal pal - enjoy your smoke free day, go to sleep and then wake up a winner. Life is good! I quit with the patch also....used it for about 16 weeks I believe. The highest dose does give you a buzz....but then you also get a spacey feeling from not inhaling carbon monoxide. This feeling is your brain on oxygen! The patch can also cause sleep disturbance and vivid, wild dreams. some users take it off at night....I chose to leave mine on all the time. I usually smoked a lot in the mornings and didn't want to face the craves without the patch. I think the bottom line is that you adjust to that steady stream of nicotine that comes from the patch. When you smoked your nicotine level went up and down...with the patch it is steady....that's one reason those patches can take the "edge" off the craving. Your nicotine level doesn't dip to a low...that helps you stay in control and learn to cope with the triggers and the habit of reaching for a smoke. the patch isn't a magic bullet....you will still have strong urges to smoke....you must develope coping skills, stay positive and determined. stick close to this site....post often, ask any questions...none are foolish....we have all been where you are and for one I thought the beginning was the worst....it gets better when you get through a couple of weeks. Just fasten your belt and ride the ride! :) katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1769 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 70,785 Amount Saved: $10083.3 Life Gained: Days: 230 Hrs: 19 Mins: 48 Seconds: 8
