Hi NewPapa, I know you are probably at home now, but just remember that you are still entitled to breaks. Remember too, that you used to take a break about once every hour. So still do that, take a walk around the office, go make a cup of tea or coffee, go to the fridge and get a bottle of water, anything to "break" yourself every hour or so, like you used to do. And the reason to use hard candies or tootsie pops or licorice sticks is the hand to mouth habit we are so used to doing. With all the fiddling and handling and messing about with the ashes and lighting the things, and all, we have quite a bunch of habits to replace. So you hang tough, you are already at the end of day 2, so take a deep breath, and plunge into day 3 armed and prepared. You can do this, you ARE doing this! Way to go New Papa - I cut smoking out of my work day before I quit completely. I kept a healthy supply of tootsie pops handy. I also had drinks that I did not associate with smoking (i.e. tea, bottled water). It's still important to take little breaks or to give yourself small rewards (your smoking time gave you a "breather" after a big meeting). Go for a short walk, check in at SCC, stretch, make a tea....whatever works for you. Good luck! Newpapa i also found it more difficult at work than at home. I took lots of walks around the building during those first couple weeks, and did a lot of deep breathing on those walks. You'll find you become much more productive and yeah, try to give those smokers a break because you might become a little resentful of the time they take. NewPapa, I also had a hard time at work because most everyone smokes in my office. I just do what people here are telling you to do: I do work that I have been putting off for a while and I go for walks after lunch. Also when I would take my breaks for smoking I now browse the newspaper, or a magazine. Just to have my mental vacations from work. I also tell my "smoker" friends that I have quit and that almost immediately starts questions of how did I quit was it hard, ect ect ect. And that makes me think of here, and of not smoking. I find it's easier at work than when I'm home. If you normally smoke after meetings, go directly back to your desk and have a glass of water or tea, or whatever else you can do to distract yourself. Start on something you've been putting off. Work is usually full of distractions to keep your mind busy.... Wishing you the best!!! Stick with it, ok??!!!!! Newpapa, initially yes - what to do during smoko breaks is tricky dicky. [list] [*]lesson 1 - keep away from the smokers outside. [*]lesson 2 - keep away from the smokers outside !. [*]lesson 3 - keep away from the smokers outside, you know the ones... they're huddled together in little groups *****ing about everything. [*]lesson 4 - After all the smokers have gone from thier little groups huddled outside at afternoon, luch & morning tea time (you know the times), Go for a walk around the block, get some fresh air if you can, otherwise have a small breather via talking to favourite co-workers or visiting us. [/list] Remember this, this is a biggie... you don't need an excuse for a smoke break every half hour anymore ! You will find that morning & afternoon tea breaks are sufficient plus you're work time will be more intense so you won't miss these 'smoke' breaks. Theres plenty more tips, but this is probably the best one i can give you for now.
