Mookie, that's great advice about staying close. That's what I'm going to try to do this time. I'm sick of going back after being quit but staying close to this board - reading and making a few posts a day - is what I'm going to try to do basically from now until doomsday.
You know alcoholics that go to AA all get it drummed into their heads that they need to keep going to the meetings. They don't say, keep going to the meetings for a few months and then you don't need them anymore. They say, keep going!
We are no less addicts than the alcoholic or the drug addict. We need to be reminded of why we don't want to smoke, the pain of quitting, etc.
Heck, even just getting on here and seeing the names that introduce themselves, say they are totally committed and then are gone is enough to remind me just how hard it is to quit. I'm going to protect my quit this time.

You've got the right attitude Mookie! Just continue to tell yourself you will take this one day, one hour, one moment at a time. Hang on tight and read, read, read here at SSC. We're all here fighting the same battle.
Strength to you,
Debbie

I cannot believe that I am putting myself thru this torture again but I am. I really have to fight not to give in to this but I know it will pass. My partner has also quit and is using the patch for an aide. I do better without the NRT's and as long as we are doing our quit together it is a big help. When there were cigs in the house, its was much more difficult. I am glad not to have the stench of tobacco on our clothes and in the car. I blew my quit of 3 1/2 months because I gave into the Nico Demon when there was illness and family problems but I know it was just an excuse. I need to stay close especially when I'm having a hard time instead of caving in. This is where I need to come to get help and support. It's pointles to continue the excuses and I know its always a choice. I can only take one day at a time. I did not smoke for 2 days and I will not smoke tomorrow. NOPE.
Will stay close.
Mookie
Mookie,
What are you doing to combat this? Do you have coping mechanisms? Make a list of chores, hobbies and activities to help distract you. Whatever works, try it!
You have great support at home so lean on one another and help each other through those tough times :)
Keep Strong,
Josie
