17 years ago 0 37 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi JT, I saw that post as well and it got me to thinking. My Dr. they give me an RX for 8 weeks. It would be nice to get off all drugs both nicotine and Chantix asap.

I'm feeling like I could control my urge now after 14 days on Chantix. How long does one typically have to take Chantix before getting off it?

Well thanks but I doubt my doctor would know. My Mom stopped after 8 days. I'm still feeling lousy after 14. Part of that is the Chantix I suspect. Today was the world loooongest day. Time seems to stop.

Hi JoesphL, I understand about the side effects. But I keep thinking about the harm that nicotine did to my body. I can take the side effects for a while longer. Regarding the longest day. Stay close to the site. I know that when I am struggling, I can spend hours reading everyones good advice. There are plenty of friends here that you can talk to all day long. Have a blessed one. Hi Joesph, You might want to speak to your doctor about when to stop taking Chantix. I know I had the same thought yesterday and then read a post that a person had stopped taking the neds. They thought that they had the nicotine out of their system. I believe they had been quit for a while. That person slipped. That might not be much help, but it made me realize I probably am not ready to stop. Hope your quit continues to go well. Joseph, I felt the same way you did, but after talking to my doctor, decided to stick with the Chantix. I've been smoke free for 25 days, so that means I've been taking the Chantix for 32. I just started taking my second month, and to my relief, the dosage goes down by half. I think you've got to gradually get off of this stuff to make your chances of quitting more successful. If you really want to stop taking it, maybe you should drop down to 1mg/day for a couple weeks. Exercising might help, too :). Hopefully you read my post. I got off Chantix after taking it for 14 Days straight and thought I didn't need it. Boy, You will be in for a rude awakening. The nicotine withdrawel came on like a big mack truck. I didn't realize the chantix is stimulated your receptors like Nicotine, therefore you are still getting somewhat of a nicotine stimulation but without the nicotine. It really got me through my first week and I though Oh, I am good, let's get off. DON'T DO IT!! Hang on till your doctor says stop. I have seen in other posts that usually after 14 weeks they are stopping without trouble. Listen up please! When I quit the 1st time..."If I could just take something to take this edge off, it wouldn't be so bad." Chantix, my friends is the answer to the thought above! I encourage all of you to take as directed so you don't fall into the panic and anxiety of withdrawal. I also encourage you to explore your feelings as you are going to experience some craving...or are they actually triggers that when you smoke...mask the underlying emotion you are feeling at the time (like anger...that you would lite up and never realize you were feeling it, or deny it) It's good to keep a journal or log...when you have these cravings and write your feelings out. Tell that person or situation off...loud and clear. Become assertive, you are in control now, not the cigarett. We have all been taught..."To be Nice", but that doesn't mean we have to be used! auntdeb My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 20 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,023 Amount Saved: $95 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 19 Mins: 32 Seconds: 44
