Question for those who've read the "book"

17 years ago 0 925 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi everyone, my computer keeps crashing so will make this quick and just thank everyone for their support. I'm adding everyone who responded to my buddy list, but don't know how to use the IM yet lol. freedomforme I hope your book arrives really soon as I think you'll get a lot of help from it. I'm not letting my copy out of my sight anytime in the near future! Having an ok day, doing lots of reading, and practicing my craving busters. I had to cancel going to doctor as I'm waiting for the furnace repairman, but plenty of time for the rx this week. If anyone has any thoughts, advice or stats on how quickly to cut down I'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to push it a little more every day. Some days are easier than others and I'm planning on cutting to the core during the final week. Lady (still bowing to all the non smokers)

Hi windy and faithfreedom, Wow, I finished the book this afternoon...it blew my mind and is just what I needed. When I first put the book down, I was going to change my quit date to tomorrow (and just quit today) but thought about it for a while and decided I'd wait to see the Doctor first. It's been 6 hours since finishing the book and I've smoked 1 (not too bad, could have held off the craving, but thought nope I'm not masacistic enough to go cold turkey). Faith, your post was like I'd just written it myself!!! I'm just shy of 35 years of smoking heavily too. The light bulb was lighting up for me as well. I was so elated to know that I can and will be free! Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I feel I need to reread the book as much as I can between now and quitting and have yet to watch the dvd's that came with it. I also still have some plans to make for craving busters and a few activities to round up for freedom day! I want to give my body time to catch up with all the cutting back I've done and finish off some plans to change the where's and when and how I smoke. I want to do everthing I can to make this to work on my 1st try on the 28th. Windy, I'm not going to ask for an NRT but will go for one of the nicotine free pills, as I understand now that NRT's will only prolong my addiction and I want it over with as quickly as possible. I'm cutting back from 35-45 per day, so I think (I'm well under 15 on average for the past week and will be under 10 today and down to 6 or less by quit day)combined with using the pills, the book and having all my plans in place will give me the best chance to make the 28 the first day of my new life! I realize this is still not going to be a painless walk in the park, but I feel much more confident and at ease about the future. :) The queasy dreaded feeling is gone and now I'm looking forward to the 28th like never before. LOL, glad you're looking forward to it, because I may not be so confident on the 29th and may be begging for your help! Thanks again everyone and if necessary in advance for all your help. Lady (bows to all the non smokers)

Good Morning! Thanks gonnadoit, 2tone, and penguin for taking your time to help me. 2tone, I'm not really torturing myself just yet. Torture is when I tried to quit in the past with no plan, no understanding of my smoking patterns and no idea of how to beat cravings so severe I just wanted to pull my hair out. That's why I've always failed so quickly in the past, never even got to my 4th day! This time is different. The reason I'm cutting back is because I've been such a heavy smoker since my last failed quit 4 years ago. I look at this quit like I'm about to jump over a "grand canyon" so to speak...the life I want is on the other side and I have to get there. I can stand in one spot till I'm ready to jump, or I can start running as fast as I can beforehand so that when I jump I can land as close to the other side as possible. I hope this book will help me be even more prepared. I'm determined to do this, but in all honesty, I still have that wiggling fear of can I really do it this time. Anyways, I'm going to face the fear and get on with it. Thanks again Lady (smoke free in less than 2 weeks) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

My apologies to the moderators for putting a product in the title of my thread...it was not intended as an endorsement! Thankyou N2k, windy, Sparky, Danielle, ter724 and mercy74 for your insights. Thankfully I read for 3.5 hours and only lit up twice, a little more than I wanted to but under the circumstances I felt ok about those 2 occasions as they were valuable excercises. I find his style is a bit unusual but so far I love how he's proving his points of view and completely understand where he's coming from. I'm so glad I asked for advice as I've managed to stay within my own self-imposed limit for today. Like you N2k, I'm already going through withdrawl even though I have 2 weeks before my quit date. It's still managable for me, but I would like some NTR before I cut back much more. Maybe weaning myself isn't optimal, but I think taking babysteps is better than taking no steps right now. If nothing else, it's giving me a refresher of what I can expect and since I have a plan this time I know it will be easier to control those cravings. I'm so determined to quit that I will bump my date up if the doctor will give me an NTR on Monday and it starts to help the physical (the little demon lol) discomfort. Thanks for your time everyone and I'm proud of all of you for doing so well with your quits! Thanks for the quick reply Penguin, Went for a walk around the block to clear my head. I can see that my willpower alone will not make the quit easier by itself. Since I haven't skipped ahead in the book, thought I'd try to get opinions from someone who's read it before I made up my mind. Hee hee, I never was very good at following instructions that didn't make sense to me :eg:. You can be sure I will get to the end of this book, as I'm determined to make this quit my last one! Just got back from the bookstore and started reading the book. I'm at the part where he asks you to light up. :gasp: I've been working really hard to cut down for the last couple weeks and don't want to blow the progress I've made!!! I've managed to cut my smoking in half or a tiny bit more just by willpower alone. It's been difficult to get this far and I don't want to lose the ground I've made. So I'd appreciate advice. It's so, so, so tempting (any excuse to cave in and smoke more before my quit day in 2 weeks sounds wishy-washy for me at this point) to just give in, smoke like a chimney, read the book and hope it helps me. I'm not a believer in the book yet lol, so I put it down for a while and will go for a walk to give some of you time to respond before I start reading it again. For those of you who've read the book, please give me some advice. Would it be beneficial like he says it is to stop trying to cut down, or should I ignore his instructions to smoke and just keep reading? I'm afraid to talk about the book ;). It should be here within a week, and in the interim I'm reading other stuff from that site and other sites, all cancer sites, etc., etc. I've never had a quit like this. Good luck Lady and get to the doctor soon. I couldn't taper off cigs, for me it's all or nothing. Thanks for adding me to your buddy list! I'll add you too and I'm still figuring out IM! Marie
